    Sounds good skarne.

Most united fans would consider Levein to be a far superior manager to Neilson when comparing their times at Tannadice.

I'm thinking Ian McCall working wonders at Falkirk with a budget close to zero - surely he'll be amazing at United with a bit of money behind him… nope! Craig Brewster doing fantastic stuff at Inverness - we'll have him, no brainer! Huge mistake. Even Csaba Laszlo had a good record in his time at Hearts and seemed like a decent move for us at the time but ended up setting us back massively. I'm sure there are others.

I don't have a counter suggestion, but just want to warn people against the assumption that someone who has been relatively successful managing a club that we consider smaller than ourselves, that he'll automatically bring similar results to us. It rarely works out like that.
Very good post and great minds think alike as my mind wandered back this morning to previous managers who did well at smaller clubs but flopped at Tannadice.
I have another example to follow later about managerial appointments in TheAuldHunStand. It comes with a government health warning.

For those who like to speculate Sky Bet have Wright at 5/1 whilst mcbookie has him as low as 2/1.

I don't know I think most united fans would consider Levein our best manager since McLean even without trophy win?

In all seriousness, if you said to us any time between 2016 and 2019 that Craig Levein would be our manager in our first season back in the Premiership - every one of us would have bitten your hand off.

Having said that... what he has done during that time in his short spell at Hearts doesnt inspire confidence in his ability as a manager. Feels like he is still following the same methods he did back in the late 2000's. Football has evolved massively but I dont know if he has? All will be revealed and it all depends on if Forrest and McCulloch go with Robbie imo.

Is that true? If so then that's another strange one. At the moment he must surely be all in favour Hearts' efforts to avoid relegation, which involves United staying down. If he moved to Manage United then he has to quickly change his opinion and be all for us going up and therefore relegating Hearts. Strange situation to be in.

A bit like how Robbie has worked so hard over the last 18 months or so to get United promoted, then once he achieves that and is setting up for a crack at the league above, he jumps ship to Hearts and now must surely be willing a decision in Hearts' favour, keeping us down and thus undoing all of his work.

Agree, his stock was high at the time of being offered Scotland job and if he has the hunger then the motivation to work at a club set up to succeed by the new owner would be way more appealing than one which is set up to fail such as Hearts and their owner.
Of course the opportunity to to get it right up them would also serve as a driver.

I'm not saying Levein would be my 1st choice but I would say he would be a very safe pair of hands to consolidate our return. With such a short window until season resumes knowing the club and the league is so important. Levein is a play the long game man, and would also help steer us along Ogren's path and vision he set out when taking ownership.

I hope we aren't relying on Peter Crouch to save our summer.

I am not sure Hearts seriously think they will be anywhere else than the Championship next season. Why else would they let go Stendel go on the relegation release clause and bring in, no sniggering at the back, Championship promotion expert Neilson. I suspect they are levering for a compensation agreement.

Regarding Levein I have my doubts based on people are looking at his previous success at United when United were an established Premiership club with some really decent players. Its a very different job for any new manager coming in now.
