I think it is important to distinguish 'BBC' from 'BBC News' in determining how much respect there is for the Beeb home and abroad. Many people feel the BBC News is too right wing or too left wing (which tells its own story of course) but I suspect very few would doubt the quality of the non-news output.

I think that the purpose of the BBC to inform, educate and entertain 'impartially' - which I think justifies a licence fee, should not mean that people are in effect taxed to pay the salaries of the 'Gary Linekers' of this world - the BBC could use trained journalists to do these jobs and let the 'Gary Linekers' seek there huge salaries in the private sector -The "incredible value"of the BBC might be more apparent then.
If nothing else, Gary Lineker is the personification of everything that is most nauseating about the woke celebrity culture, drawing a huge publicly funded salary which his 'talent' does absolutely nothing to justify, while preaching from his ivory tower about equality and social justice. He represents the BBC very well actually.

I think it's worth paying just to have some channels without adverts on, I can't stomach them and sick of watching 40 minute long hour shows. The right think it's left wing, the left think it's right wing so that negates each other. I think the programme quality in the main is good with some excellent shows/documentaries. I don't like most of the breakfast news team though, too up themselves for me.

To be fair though why should some people pay for something they don't want or use? Maybe a subscription option would be better. I think though if it was gone it might be missed.

Defund it because it doesn’t reassure right wing retards that they were in actual fact right about Brexit, the virus, and being massive racists.

As a fellow working-class East Midlander I'm proud of Gary Lineker for the stands he's taken in support of the deprived and oppressed groups. It would be very easy for him to be just another silent, self-interested millionaire - but he's spoken out for those less fortunate than himself and that has to be commended.

And there's nothing 'political' about supporting causes like Marcus Rashford's call to help children living in poverty - just basic humanity and social common sense.

The BBC gets complaints from both the right and the left because they have their own political agenda. They dumped on Corbin because he was for Brexit and they opposed it. The BBC is full on identitarian left wing politics, anyone that does not support that will get the BBC on their case. You might think the TV programming is safe but it is seen as a joke in most cases that is just pushing politics and people are just turning it off.

The BBC does produce some good programs but that is fading away being replaced by agenda driven garbage.

There are ways to save the BBC, and this is what I would do.

First would I have a proper comaplints process, as it stands when you complain about the BBC you complain to the BBC. There needs to be a third pary politically neutral organisation that deals with the complaints and it should have the power to impose really large fines on the BBC for being politically active.

I also believe that all articles on the BBC site should have a comments section and an ability to thumbs up and thumbs down earch article, like you get on youtube. This will allow people to show support or not about the articles and allows readers to see if others have problems with what they are getting.

Enforce a diverse set of opinions by forcing the BBC News channels to show news reviews programs from third party organisations.

Have the political makeup of the BBC public knowledge. There are political tests out there like the political compass https://www.politicalcompass.org/test and 8 values tests https://www.idrlabs.com/8-values-political/test.php every one publishing news on the BBC should have this information about them shown. It doesn't need to be these political tests but there should be something that allows the public to know the biases of the reporters.

Outlaw completely their campaining, it doesn't matter what the issue is they should only be allowed to inform people and if people then decide to campain that is it.

There is a major trust issue with the BBC and if they don't fix that then they deserve to fade.

Some interesting opinions there Ewar. Different from mine in most cases (not all) but interesting all the same.

Yes totally agree. But a public figure showing concern to people less fortunate than themselves is ‘nauseating’ apparently.

You’re right, I shouldn’t have used that word. That post also shows I’ve totally contradicted myself in the same thread....oops.

My view - The millionaire taking a stand, who receives a salary through the licence fee which those who are "deprived and oppressed" have no real choice but to pay: I see a few crumbs being chucked from the captain's table.
