You earn points, first and foremost, by not conceding. Yes, scoring more than your opponent helps, but if you don't concede you get at least a point.

Connolly has cost us 3 points already himself: the brainfart against St Johnstone dropped us from a win to a draw and that on Friday night cost us a draw. The team as a whole have lost a lead three times in ten matches so far, losing once.

That is 7 (seven) points dropped in ten games. Connolly is responsible directly for three of those points. It's equivalent, across the season, to about 27 points.

I think he has conceded - or could have - conceded about four penalties in the opening ten matches too.

Bear in mind that he has only played eight matches!

This thread is about Connolly, hence my focus on him. There is a wider issue, though, that we are losing leads but that we aren't scoring enough to put us out of sight either.

Instead of having trust a d being on the front foot, our creative players are constantly on the back foot awaiting his next fuch up, or worse at the back trying to defend his fuch up.
Other than that I also agree

The opposition knows full well that to put Connolly under pressure will likely give them a chance in a game to score. Remember too, our highly creative midfield and razor sharp attack has put our defence under more pressure than it should suffer. Generally speaking the defence has borne the burden well.

I don't mind Connolly selling a goal if in return our midfield and forwards can score two. If we have the balance right in the team, he will be under less pressure and the slip ups more easily forgiven and likely less frequent. A Connolly in a 'we only score four' team can be an asset. A Connolly in a 'we cannae score at a' team can be an ass!
What load of nonsense. You want good players on the park, not ones you are happy to flog a goal every few games as long as your strikers make up for it at the other end. Well guesss what? Our strikers aren't making up for it, so we can't afford a liability like Connolly. Passion counts for f*ck all if you keep costing your team points.

I watched Chelsea's new 20 odd million pound keeper in the penalty shoot out with spurs the other night and he looked ****ing rubbish, nowhere near any of them lol

Controversial Connolly eh? A bit like Rado. He was a great shot stopper and penalty saver, but flapped at crosses and let in soft goals. Went on to play for the top team in Poland as well as the Polish national side. His assets outweighed his deficiencies.

True, slight error there. But he has fouled folk and we've got away with it several times.

Now, what about all the other stuff I wrote?
