    O/T Whitby

My wife and I have been here since 21st December in a quayside cottage at the bottom of the 199 steps.
Not many people about and not much open. Been out for some lovely meals and had a great Christmas walk round the abbey and harbour before dinner yesterday.
We went clay pigeon shooting on Xmas eve and it’s back home tomorrow at some point.
We went to Mexico last Christmas but I am going to make this my annual Christmas getaway.
Highly recommend if you like the peace and quiet, cracking views and seafood.
We just got back from oysters, mussels, salmon and seafood curry with some nice wine, a few beers and an Irish coffee at a restaurant called the fisherman’s wife.

I like Whitby, but Whitby doesn’t like me. Every time I go there it rains, I’m a jinx for the place.

Question Scum......is the smoked herring place still trading? I love ‘em

Fortunes? Yes. Went up there a couple of days ago. It’s been there sommat like 150 years. We bought a couple back to the cottage and grilled them. Served up with a runny poached egg for breakfast.
    The taste is sublime.

We had bad weather on Christmas Eve, sleet and wind.
Been very cold, fresh but clear all the other days.

Glad you are enjoying Tier 2.
Is there any chance it's quiet due to most of the UK being in Tier 3 and 4, including areas where the visitors would come from including West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Teesside all of which have areas which have lower Covid rates than the Scarborough area?!

Not that it’s any of your business but no rules have been broken. We checked and double checked.

Both of us returned negative tests before coming here and just the 2 of us have left one house to go to another.

We’ve gone on lot’s of walks in the fresh air and have not bothered with a couple of the boozers that are sticking pork pies and cocktail sausages on your table while you drink as much as you want.

Only been to restaurants, sat together and stuck to all the regulations.

This is a message board so if you post it's everyone's business, if not don't post.

Only people who live in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas can go on holiday in England in other Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas. I don't know where you live, maybe it's a Tier 2 area.

Now whether the Scarborough area should be in Tier 2 is a different question given the rising rates which are higher than a lot of tier 3 areas including Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and Barnsley. Or if we should be in Tier 2.

The post was about a good way to enjoy Christmas. If I wanted to get into a covid debate it would be on the other board.

You’re wrong. Look it up. The terminology is shouldn’t, not can’t.

This is copied from the gov website. I checked this was ok with my GP, as we didn’t take it for granted.

“ Where possible, you should stay local and avoid travelling outside your local area, meaning your village or town, or part of a city. People should continue to travel for reasons such as work, education, medical attention or if they have caring responsibilities.

You can still travel to venues that are open, or for reasons such as work or education, but you should reduce the number of journeys you make wherever possible.

You should still avoid travelling outside your tier 3 area other than for the reasons such as those .”

The reason that avoid and should are used rather than cannot are so the elite could still travel out of 3 to 2. This was my GP’s words. Not mine.
