Thread: Every day the vaccine rolls out

The coverage of this on the BBC is still persisting with the case numbers as the headline.

If you look at the data, at the previous peak, 90 deaths would be registered in a day and the seven day average would be something around 60. At the moment it is very often 0 with the seven day average 3. Scotland I'm on about specifically here.

It's interesting the angle the BBC are taking when in reality this is actually a good news story.

Im surprised you are expecting the BBC to be any different. I have not fully read anything on the subject of Covid from the BBC for a while, and therefore dont have a handle on where you are coming from.

However, to me the case numbers are probably more important than they have ever been as they are hopefully gonna be all we have to think about once everyone is vaccinated. But while it is tragic that people are still dying with/from Covid, like you say, it is a positive that the numbers are so small in comparison to the height of previous waves and proves the chain is being broken.

It is not the time to become complacent though, but we also need to be pushing the balance as there are areas where we could still be allowing greater freedoms.

    Nicola Sturgeon today:

"That is why, notwithstanding the increase in cases just now - and bearing in mind we need to keep this under review - we do remain hopeful that we will be able to continue lifting restrictions, first on 19 July and ultimately on 9 August."

Shortened version of an update as we pass through the 85% mark for vaccination first dose uptake.

Vaccination progress by age group, Dose1 - Dose 2.
    Over 80s, (266,416/269,925) 98.7% (98.5) – 95.2% (94.4)
    75-79, (198,153/198,153) 100% - 99.1% (98.4)
    70-74, (284,647/284,647) 100% - 100% (99.4)
    65-69, (299,684/299,684) 100% (99.9) – 97.9% (96.5)
    60-64, (353,463/353,463) 100% - 99.1% (89.5)
    55-59, (391,749/392,927) 99.7% (99.1) – 94.2% (74.1)
    50-54, (376,445/394,254) 93.9% (93.2) – 85% (49.6)
    40-49, (601,966/680,957) 88.4% (86.1) – 41.4% (29.4)
    30-39, (559,448/721,868) 77.5% (57.8) – 25.5% (20.3)
    18-29, (432,518/848,074) 51% (26.5) – 17.8% (13.9)

As seen there, 4th age group hits 100% and none lower than 50%.

    End of play Sunday,
Vaccine Allocated by Public Health England, 7,257,460 (6,552,070), 705,390 in 2 weeks.
Vaccine Delivered to NHS Scotland, 6,636,390 (6,062,250), 574,140 in 2 weeks.

Following is end of play Tueday.
    First dose vaccinated, 3,781,887 (3,403,866) and 84.9%, 378,021 in 2 weeks.
    Second dose vaccinated, 2,701,195 (2,282,203) and 60.7%, 418,992 in 2 weeks.
    Total Vaccination doses, 6,483,082 (5,686,069), 797,013 in 2 weeks.

Approximately 672,632 people still to be offered/given a first dose over the next 3(?) weeks.

Loosely based on the current target of 400k vaccinations/week, 621,070 10 days sitting doon sooth, 153,308 2 days in stock which must be the reason there has been a slowdown in vaccine into arms this week!

Nearly 2,000 cases in Scotland linked to the tartan army travelling to London.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-57667163

EDIT: Sorry - 1,991 cases in Scotland linked to watching the Euros. Nearly two thirds of the cases were fans who had travelled to London, with 397 actually attending the game at Wembley. Some of the others had attended the fan zone in Glasgow.

For context when Glasgow was kept in level 3 the case rate was 80. Vaccines have been the game changer with kickdown. The death rate has remained very low

If any of you can mind O last early summer the ancient nation O Scotland was almost Covid free without a vaccine and went day after day with zero deaths.

Where has it all went wrong with Dundee almost the Covid capital of europe?.

Too many folk thinking it's over and clearly not giving two phux.

I was in Aberdeen on Wednesday and, in Union Square shopping centre I didn't see a single person without a mask on and I was there for hours. Go to the Overgate and you'll see one within about 2 minutes...
