Some lovely goals, albeit helped by some hopeless defending.

You can see how many questions we’re going to pose for teams when we attack, though. It was interesting that Barnet played a midfield diamond when they’ve been playing wing backs all of pre-season - you have to guess that was in an attempt to directly counter us. Our obvious threats are Cal and Ruben picking the ball up in the number ten position, so they flooded that area of the pitch. Problem was that both are comfortable wide as well, so they drifted out there and combined with DKE/Taylor to mean we had an overload on their full backs every time in the second half.

Then they tried to stop that by playing a much higher line, but that was a disaster because we brought O’Brien on and his movement in behind kept catching them out.

I think teams who try and just defend against us like that are mostly going to get blown away. Test for Notts will be if someone manages to press high, starve us of the ball and make us defend under sustained pressure.

Not sure whether they were going zonal there, man to man, or if Ruben really needs some new deodorant.

the goal celebrations show the team spirit and motivation....
contrast that with the middle of last season, when sometimes it seemed that players weren't bothered to congratulate a scorer...

Ruben's goals were better than I expected. I know he was unmarked, but he had time to think himself out of that header from 12 yards. The second was a great training ground move, I wonder if Clapham had any hand in that....

Beautifully weighted passes by Cameron and Francis for 4 and 5...
So many winning contributions, confidence should be sky high for Torquay, I think they'd better watch out.

It seems a very happy place at the minute, doesn’t it.

Just little bits like Burchnall/Doyle joking around with Brindley about fouling his housemate in that training video. Brindley/Cameron/DKE/Roberts all being happy to go on fan podcasts and talk openly recently. Even something as silly as Ruben pronouncing Nemane’s name wrong in his post-match and the latter having a laugh about it on Twitter.

Everything points to Notts being a place where everyone is loving coming to work and gets on with each other, which definitely hasn’t always been the case.

Yeah, if you can bottle an intangible like that it's worth a lot of extra points over a season...

It'd be great if we can ride that high through Torquay and Wrexham and then head into the run of easier fixtures with 7 or 9pts
The test you talk about will come sooner or later when a team matches the intensity and physically bullies us, IF we can find answers for that within games I can't see us finishing lower than 3rd

a bit more on those Cameron and Francis passes...I know they played a very poor high line, but we've seen plenty of defenders and CMs at Notts who still wouldn't a) have seen the pass and b) been able to execute it...

Francis' in particular was so perfectly weighted that JOB only needed one touch to score..
Credit to for JOB for two great runs in behind
Palmer too with 2 assists in effect for goals 2 and 3. Other assists for DKE, JOB and Francis, plenty of 'hockey assists' too, eg Roberts for the first, Cameron for the 4th
