The Barnet backline by that stage was so disorganised and all over the place you didn't even have to momentarily check whether JOB was offside as he ran through on goals 4 and 5. That says it all.

My alcohol influenced memory has the passage of play that lead to the clear penalty being two dozen passes before Cal was hacked down. Would like to see a replay even if it showed it was probably more than a dozen and no more. Either way very enjoyable to view along with 1000+ fellow pies.

Really good goals albeit, like others have pointed out, against shocking defending!

Rodrigues’s 2nd goal in particular showed very good technique, those tend to fly over the away stand! A goal from a corner too….when was the last time that happened?! Is that an instant result from the new coach?

Good to hear about DKE getting forward better as that was an area of his game I felt was lacking. Also glad to hear Taylor performed well, he didn’t convince me in the pre-season games.

I remember saying last season JOB could play much higher, maybe as a CAM…glad to see others are now seeing it too. I can’t stress how important he is to how we play and at what tempo we perform at.

I think Chesterfield are going to be strong this year but for now I’ll bask in an unfamiliar delight at a great opening day!

Well done Notts and all those that made the journey down 👍

I thought we had pretty much filled that stand behind the goal but there are loads of empty seats. Always looks more when you are actually sat in there I suppose. Still, a very decent away turn out at this level.

contrast that with the middle of last season, when sometimes it seemed that players weren't bothered to congratulate a scorer...

Ruben's goals were better than I expected. I know he was unmarked, but he had time to think himself out of that header from 12 yards. The second was a great training ground move, I wonder if Clapham had any hand in that....

Beautifully weighted passes by Cameron and Francis for 4 and 5...
So many winning contributions, confidence should be sky high for Torquay, I think they'd better watch out.
Ruben also played a role in the lead-up to the first goal, dummying the ball in the centre of the park and then taking up a great position in the penalty area (great cross from DKE, perfect placement).

Great to see the goals, but it also made me think of one thing that hasn’t been mentioned much - we kept a clean sheet. We were badly in need of one to boost confidence in the defence, Slocombe more than most. A really good day all round.
