MillersMad Matchthread - The Millers v Sunderland

A kick in the teeth! Another managerial appointment! Over spending on players that under preform! Chairmen want to sell! Another owner! Another season in League One! Sunderland and our foe for today!

Today we take on one of British footballs sleeping giants! Sunderland have a great history and have had some great players who helped Sunderland play in the top league of England for many years!

They are in a select club that have fallen from grace and are trying to get back to the top division along with:
    Wigan
    Sheffield Wednesday
    Ipswich Town
    Bolton Wanderers
    Portsmouth
    Charlton
    Wimbledon

Some of those clubs had a chemistry that died when certain parts of them left, retired or didn't reinvest. Some of them invested badly and ended up being unable to control their delise. Most have been punished for their misdealings some even having to fold and start again from scratch.

Some will return to the big time and some won't but what is the big time fo the clubs mentioned? Only time will tell but for this season we are amongst these teams, along with others all tring to gain promotion into the Championship (Our big time). but only 3 will make it.

It's going to be a great game I reckon and one that will give some indication on where we will be towards the end of the season!

Enjoy the match boys and girls!

Expecting another toughie today. I think this is the first proper game in 5 or 6 that Grigg hasn't partnered Smith. They are developing a good understanding.

A clean sheet would be good, as I think they are better going forward than defending.

The bière fuelled travelling circus that is Mr & Mrs Frog roll into Perigord Land today, so our contributions may be patchy.

I really fancied going to this one but couldn't get the day booked off work.
I finish at 245 but unfortunately I'm 30 miles away.

I agree with froggie, I think this game could be a really good indicator as to how our season might pan out.

I've just had a look on a Sunderland forum and they were pretty respectful. Many would be happy with a point and a couple said that wss the first time they'd thought that since being down in League 1.

Whenever I think of Sunderland, a couple of games always spring to mind for me.
The FA Cup game against them in '98 at Millmoor, when they battered us 5-1.
I ended up drinking with some Sunderland lads in Masboro after the game, despite the result I had a right laugh and got very, very drunk.

The other was a hard fought 0-0 up at there place mid-week, maybe early noughties.
A very solid performance and again found the Sunderland fans a very friendly bunch.

Morning Frog'n'all. Three points today would reall convince me that we're on our way. One point and we're holding our own. A loss not the end of the world but would feel like we've been brought down to earth with a bit of a bang after the highs of the last few weeks.

    On verra...
