Thread: Has Michael Smith’s head been turned and has he shut off to lessen injury?

It sounds daft but sometimes you can try too hard and it”s counter productive.you make the wrong runs you over hit a pass or miscontrol one,and misdirect headers and rush shots in that situation and you don’t do what normally comes naturally ..Probably just needs a scrappy goal and it might lift him..

But that's the thing with strikers isn't it, good spells and bad ones.

If Smith was a consistent scorer he wouldn't be playing in league 1

    Exactly.

It’s not like he’s ever had a season scoring consistently with us. He’s got less than 50 goals in 4 seasons. In the championship he was mostly up there alone getting whacked and feeding off scraps.

    At 30 I wouldn’t begrudge him a move to a bigger club.

The other Michael Smith could win the darts this year, he just needs to keep his head.

I think people were getting carried away with his start. After 12 years he doesn't suddenly turn into a goal machine and be worth the silly figures some were spouting.
Smith has had a great start and if he can replicate what he has done in the past for us he can still get 20 goals.

    Agree.
I have him down for 20 league goals this season which would be a remarkable return and unfortunately for M.S. he won't be winning the signed Alan Shearer shirt that Richie Barker promised him.!! Good luck to him if he can manage a move to a bigger and better club at the end of the season.

Michael Smith isn't getting as many out and out chances as earlier in the season.
He won't have ' thrown the teddy out of the pram ' either.
Of late defenders are giving him a tough time, a nudge here and there as the ball comes to him, a elbow / arm at the back of his neck / head to prevent him from jumping full height. All part and parcel of football and when M S gives some back more often than not he gets penalised by the referee.
I have him to score against Lincoln and Freddy to score.

Convinced Smith finds it easier in the Championship than against some of the brutes who he's meeting at this level. He's been a "chance misser" throughout his career and will never command a big fee so we need to hang onto him and pay proper cash for a quality finisher to play alongside him.Warne and Scott have had long enough to contemplate this scenario. If we have to rely on Ladapo and Grigg for the rest of the season we won't be promoted.

Could be right there Timber, his qualities seem to be more effective against the more "refined" central defender. He has been up against some massive brutes recently and it has been difficult but he has created chances nevertheless.I do agree if we had a quick alert striker alongside him, I think it would guarantee us winning this league.

To be honest Brin I think you have convinced yourself he is off and this dry spell happens to coincide with being near January so in your mind it strengthens that view. Something must be going on in the background. For me he is just having a quiet patch, like we have said before, he was never going to keep up the rate at which he was scoring earlier on in the campaign. I may be wrong but that's my own take on it.

You may well be right. Would like to think you are and he gets back to scoring soon.
