    Very pleased with this now.
Sam can't say he wasn't given a chance to cement 1st choice...when you're gunning for promotion you can't afford gaffes from your keeper

Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has returned to us on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old featured 16 times for us earlier in the campaign having arrived as cover for the injured Sam Slocombe.

And Ian Burchnall is delighted to have him back in his squad.

“Everyone could see Anthony’s quality in the short time he spent with us,” said the head coach.

“Having him back is a huge boost as it means we now have two excellent senior goalkeepers competing with each other for their place in the team.

“At a time when Covid could strike anyone at any time, and with a busy second half of the season approaching, it’s crucial we have strength in depth in all areas and Patto’s return certainly gives us that in the goalkeeping department.

“As mentioned at the time of his recall, we have maintained close dialogue with Sunderland and we’d like to say a big thank you to them for trusting us with Patto’s continued development. It’s great that they appreciate the progress he made while working with us and we look forward to bringing him on even further in the months ahead.

“This may also give us the chance to get Tiernan Brooks out on loan following his beneficial spell at Worksop earlier this season. Senior game time is very important for Tiernan at this stage of his development and it will be good to get him back out there.”

Patterson, who is eligible to face Wrexham on Sunday, will reclaim the number 25 shirt.

This is fantastic news and is effectively like a new signing until the end of the season. Well Done to those at the club for making this happen.

A good goalkeeper is worth ten points a season and having someone like Patterson ready and available will be v.ital for the second half of the season.

Awesome news, I know one man doesn't make a team but his clean sheets, set aside Slocombe's tells it's own story. I suspect Patterson's nifty footwork might lead to a soft goal, but overall it is a massive upgrade. Well done Notts.

Possibly, but I think the stats from ncfcogs site that as well as commanding his box, we play further up the pitch when Patterson has been in the team. Pretty important in making us more effective.

Patto was always coming back providing Sunderland suffered no more goalkeeping crisis
As I’ve said in another thread, having full confidence in your goalkeeper from a defenders perspective is massive
He oozes quality when coming to claim balls..
    Rarely flaps
    Good shot stopper..
It does seem unfair on slocombe because had we not got another goalkeeper in,this wouldn’t light up sams weaknesses so much..
But I truly believe patto is worth 10 goals a season better off
