Thread: Your own standards where united should be

  1. #11
Should be top 6 given budget etc and the fact a'body in this league is as sh1te as each other we should defo be targeting top 6

current and previous form since October suggests we're targeting a return to the fizzy pop league.

If we end up in play offs I've zero confidence in Tam to keep us up, then there will be the spin on how disappointed we are but we've been here before and we'll bounce back, we've got the players to do this blah blah pish

nae wonder crowds are plummeting ffs

My only expectation is that I feel I get value for money in watching them. I have openly admitted on here in the past if the product is crap I won't pay to watch it and last season was a prime example of that where I pretty much turned away from the last half of the season and no longer went to the ground.. started most game online with free streams but by 20 mins it was off.

The only way i would forgive the above is if I felt like the groundwork was being built, with a style of play that in future with the right players will come good. I didnt feel that last season as you could have had the best frontline on the planet and the ball would still not have got to them... this season my mind changes on that every game. Sometimes i look at us now and think that given some better players the groundwork is there to have a good balance at back and up top and then the next week it looks like we are devoid of ideas.

For me, the final position isn't so much of a big deal unless we are in the bottom 2 but if you're in the bottom 2 then 99% of the time you are terrible to watch as well.

A good season for me is top 6, good cup runs unless you are unfortunate enough to get a hard away game at one of the other big teams and walking out the ground most weeks knowing the team had a real go at trying to win.

An exceptional season would be Europe spots and picking up a trophy whilst also being a good watch.

Ultimately, if we played like Mellon last season but had us sitting 3rd i still wouldn't go up to watch it, that was absolutely eye bleeding and no enjoyment whatsoever

This is a good thread tbh... I think everyone has different reasons of why they enjoy going to football, some do it to spend time with family, mates, go for a drink before and after, some just to get out the house and some like me watch for entertainment purposes

i think there is a core of 4-5k that will do that, then prob another 2-3k on top that will be more likely to go if the value is there then we of course have another 27k who will just turn up for a cup final lol

I move between the core and the 2-3k i think, sometimes i will just go up but then il totally regret it and turn in to the 2-3k for another few games then cave and go back up again - Its prob just my mentality but get really hacked off with watching crap, it ruins my weekend. Prob why im now in a position at work that focus on product quality with software apps ha!

This is a legit curious question, not wanting to get into an argument regarding too negative or too positive or anything like that.

You are saying 'if we end up in the playoffs', which I presume you think is possible. In your opinion, given that we are level on points with Aberdeen and two behind Hibs, that you think they could fall that far and also do you think there is a chance St Johnstone/Dundee could finish as high as 7th (won't say top 6 because because obviously its less games for them to get to 6th rather than 7th)

Fewer games, FFS. 🤪 It's interesting the point you pick out though. We are much closer to top 6 than the playoff but I guess it depends on each persons disposition how they look at it. 🙂

I remember saying in a thread on THAT January transfer window that night that the Snake had set the Club back a decade at the stroke of a pen. I still see it that way. I think people need to remember just how hard and just how far we fell. It was a total basket case. Given that, 7th in the League currently is a damn sight better than losing six to Falkirk, five to Dross Coonty, losing away to Dumbarton, 3-0 at home to Morton, 4-0 away to QOS, Alloa, (ALLOA FFS!!). Rome wasn't built in a day and recovery from all these events is going to take some time to realise but in general I think we're heading in the right direction.

In terms of this season though, I do feel we should at a minimum be about 5-6 points better off than we are. Winning up at Coonty combined with home draws against St J, St M and Livi would have got us there without needing 'miracle' results and that's even before Tues night. Had we achieved this not particularly difficult task, we'd now be sitting 4th and I suspect have everybody feeling hunky dory.

Starting point has to be that we are 6th biggest club and a special club.

We should be at about 6th though obviously teams fortunes go up and down.

We are dependent on how good the league we are in is as to how good the football is.

Ambitions - this season I’d like top 6 but main thing is cup run and avoid being near the bottom two

Ambitions after this season. Establish top 6 and look to get in Europe year on year, do well in Europe and win trophies in Scotland
