The ref that gave the penalty to Liverpool against palace a few weeks ago has been sent to work in the EFL.
It a punishment and it means we get the ones that aren’t good enough.

He also didn’t give the penalty until VAR got in his ear.

What irritated me most yesterday was when he booked Smith for smashing the ball in around 1 or 2 seconds after the whistle blew. A few minutes earlier when the Accrington player slammed the ball to the ground in anger when he didn’t get a throw he didn’t give yellow!!

The main problem with the refs at this level is their inconsistency!!

The ref mic in the rugby league annoys me abit…when every few seconds there’s a”mooooovvvvveee”..it’s sounds like mr mackay in porridge…

They did try it in football years ago with David Elleray but we only heard an edited version and bits of it we didn’t get the full game…it would have been low tech then but they never followed it up..

Plus what language does the ref speak in for a game like France v Italy? If it's English there would be a good proportion of the crowd (and players?) who wouldn't understand what he's saying.

The referee only generally speaks to the team captains. Football player style mobbing of the referee is forbidden. I've only ever heard them speak English.

The talking is for the benefit of the captains, not the crowd.

I know I wouldn't be a referee for all the tea in China. I only ever tried it once in a competitive game and found that although my legs could keep up my brain found it more difficult, so my decisions may have seemed a bit late at times. Mind you, I'd had no training beyond watching those in professional football matches and I wasn't concentrating on the ref's performance. I do know we have a problem which is not helped by the considerable amount of abuse they receive right down the leagues including from parents at junior matches. Not helped by some of the players not understanding the rules but that's understandable when they keep changing them (offside, hand ball, etc).
On the other hand by the time they have reached our level you would think they would have achieved some sort of competence. Was this just a one-off or is he now past it? Is he underperforming every week? Aren't they monitored and marked on their performance? Surely there must be some sort of scrutiny.

The linesman is as bad nowadays
They take little responsibilty for simple decisions like throw ins. How many times have you seen the linesman at nys look at the ref for a throw decision even tho the ball has just gone out in front of him and the ref just looks back at him for some inspiration then the ref just makes a mental toss of go on in his beach for a decision 8 times out of 10 not on our favour.

That’s because before the match the ref tells the linesmen that he will make the decisions and they will only be used for confirmation

Yes, it’s daft in some situations but it’s pre arranged
