    I can see the logic Regis but I don't see it happening.

    There would be constant bickering about who paid what and who deserves the most soldiers on their patch.

    I wouldn't trust Eu leaders to run a whelk stall let alone run an army.

    Not sure about this one. I briefly served in a nato base.( cinciberlant) Lisbon in the mid 1980s for 3 months..Trained along side U.s infantry and Portuguese troops. I can remember it was a constant worry for us and the yanks when we did live firing exercises with the Portuguese lads..the number of friendly fire incidents and general poor discipline amongst them was alarming..I’m sure it’s a lot better now though but this is an issue when you amalgamate different Nations armed services.

    I’d have thought there’d be more of a reason to now (without the UK obviously). There may be language and cultural issues to combine forces but just a general alliance would be enough. the smaller EU nations would most benefit from this and the EU as a whole can fund it comfortably i’d imagine.
