The cap is £1,500,000 in League 2, £2 ,500,000 in League 1 so proportionately, £900,000 in NL is not out of place.

I disagree. Why should the likes of Notts, Wrexham, Stockport, Grimsby and Chesterfield have a wage cap significantly less than League 2 clubs who get far less support? I get that they have access to Sky money etc.. does that really equate to 600k? National League clubs are on TV more than League 2.
Having a budget linked to income would also give us a fighting chance in the FA Cup if and when playing versus League 1/2 sides. The salary cap would make that gap even bigger.

I’ll say it again. Salary caps should be based on the income of a club, not what league they are in. The National League isn’t the only league where there is a gulf in class and budgets between top and bottom.

I wasn't agreeing with the proposed cap, only pointing out the proportionality. I actually think that it should be a % of income but since the FL have a ceiling cap, I can see the NL going the same route. The cap is supposed to be some sort of leveller of the gulf, so it favours the poorer clubs by dragging down the bigger clubs. It also attempts to stop clubs spending beyond their means ( been there, done that) but a % cap would do the same.

Weren't those L2 and L1 salary caps withdrawn after a PFA challenge or similar?

Wonder if any proposed cap for the NL will go the same way? Lets hope so.

I've got mixed feelings about this to be honest.

Right now we're a big fish in a small pond who should benefit from our spending power relative to most other clubs in the league, but setting aside our immediate interests I think a wage cap is a good idea to protect clubs of all sizes and curtail the ridiculous wages that are paid to young men who often don't have the intelligence to handle such money, let alone deserve it. Frankly, the self-serving PFA can go to hell.
