Howe is transforming our players (and I don’t use that word lightly).
Up till a couple of games ago I wouldn’t have minded if Miggy left. Whether Howe is in process of transforming Miggy to a new player, like he did with Joelinton, Krafth, etc. the next few games will tell.
I think his future at the club depends on his performances in the rest of this season’s games - and I think he knows it.

Howe has transformed plenty of players, and that was obvious a long time ago…

Big Jo, Fraser, Krafth… they’ve looked players for sometime under Howe already.

Other than one goal from Miggy, which there’s no saying if it was intentional or just lucky, he’s been all running and no end product, just the same under Howe… no evidence of him changing at all… a very likeable lad, but if we are going to win games we need to score goals.

He might not go, but I’d be disappointed if he was a first 11 player next season, because we need goals and if Howe sticks with a front 3 they need to be offering something at the business end of the pitch.

People have been slagging off ASM because he’s ‘all flair and doesn’t pass’… but he has 11 goals and 12 assists in 92 prem games… yet we have people saying we should sell him on one hand and defending Miggy on the other?

I was going to say sell Miggy and Maxi but think it's probably best to form an opinion at the end of the season. Players keep surprising me every week.

Right now i'd take Raphinha for Maxi and Lingard for Miggy though easily

In my eyes all he needs to do is add a few more goals and assists to his game.

Well yeah, but after 4 seasons without doing it, it’s a bit like saying Bramble was a great player and we just needed to add concentration to his game 😉

I just think there’s only so much any coach can add to a players game, and reckon that is usually to polish an existing attribute or play them in a different way.

Do you think Miggy has shown enough to think he can become a scorer and a provider in a team that will be expected to challenge in the top half of the table next season? Because we will need goal scorers in those forward positions to do that… and his goals and assists from over 100 games for us are shocking for someone who has always played in an attacking role.

If he wasn’t so smiley then I doubt we’d even be debating his merits 😉

For me, and this is all just my opinion and am sure some people think I’m taking *******s, if we are going to look to improve any player it would be ASM, to be more of a team player, but put players around him that will put the ball in the back of the net… because let’s face it, in his time his options of players to pass too have been pretty shocking other than when Wilson has been fit.

Maybe, but it seems to me that a lot of Miggy’s support is based on 1 game (actually just the goal he scored, not even his overall game over the 90) against Palace.

In ASM’s defence I think he has shown star quality in poor teams under poor managers, so that’s why I think if either will step up in a better squad of players it would be him.

Good to see you back on, Ian.

Talking sense, as ever. Part of it is we all want to see Miggy do well because he represents the attitude we'd love to see from all our players. But, when you get down to the bare stats, he's not been very good at all.

Cheers Zip hope all’s well with you bud.

I’ve moved back to Newcastle now, so getting caught up in it a lot more 🤣

Still into your TKD? Just waiting for the kids (got a 4 year old and a 2 year old) to get settled into the new house/routine, and I’ll be carrying on JKD up here.

Will be getting to the match more, but with kids and the above I’ll not be getting a season ticket… imagine I’ll be on a very long waiting list when I have the time to go regular.

Fair points, we wrote off JL but now look. If EH can't turn him around then maybe, yeah time to sell - I was one of those that had given up on the two of them....but now I am not so sure.

Maybe, but Joelinton’s turnaround has really come around on the back of playing in midfield, whereas Bruce had him as a Number 9, but we’re not going to play Miggy in midfield.

Also, Howe’s transformed Big Jo, Murphy, Fraser, Krafth, but other than 1 goals (and let’s say Miggy meant it and be generous) that’s hardly the turnaround we have seen in other players… and even if he’s taking longer to turnaround then I don’t think I’m being unfair in saying we should have seen more from Miggy by now under how than we have?

I feel a bit mean banging on about it to be honest, he seems very likeable and am sure he’s a really nice bloke to have around d the dressing room, but I just keep going back to if he was going to step up we should have seen more, against his stats for the time he has been with us… and if you look at his stats for his entire career he’s only looked good in the MLS…
