Luton have done well for a similar size club (their attendances were about 500 more than ours last season).

One thing they do have is a Transfer Club, which accepts donations to fund player signings.

Would Millers fans be up for that?

I don't get why others can't get it. The better players cost more, bigger clubs can afford them, bigger clubs are more inviting due to wages and possibilities of success. The next rung down by and large want to sign for established clubs due to good wages and not fearing that a relegation is a distinct possibility, thus reducing their wages. The next rung down are clinging to the hope of those established clubs taking a punt on them, and if not, are probably open to bigger clubs further down (League 1) giving them more money than a side over achieving, on less money and likely to be relegated, thus reducing the wages even more. In a pure financial sense we should not be in this division, we are over achieving. Over achieving due to the excellent recruitment by and large, the recruitment that is constantly and unfairly, having mud slung at them. Over achieving due a prudent Chairman that has incrementally improved the football club during his tenure. Both on and off the pitch. The same Chairman who is now turning down multi million pound bids for our players. RUFC players worth millions. Backing the club, backing the manager. Over achieving due to a group of lads who are partly brought together due to them being brilliant people, as well as talented footballers. A Chairman willing to back his manager in bringing in a certain type of person, perhaps sacrificing certain signings because he backs the method, he backs the process and the results that have born fruit. The steady additions to the trophy cabinet being yet another example of a manager and club being backed.

People talk constantly about the manager not being backed. Yes he is, but not at the risk of the club in the long term. Why? Because then the Chairman won't be in a position to back the manager like he has done. Say goodbye to those multi million pound offers for players, our negotiating ability will plummet through the floor. Say goodbye to those players who have built a culture at this club that is slowly being recognised by other players. Say goodbye to players that can be developed into future internationals, like we have done recently. Say goodbye to a club that has developed top end Championship and Premier League talent of the future. Like we have done recently. At that point you really will remember what 'scraps' are. At that point you will not see a vision and pathway for longer term success. We will join a huge swathe of clubs who go through manager after manager, system after system, team after team, trying to find itself.

We have a culture. We have an identity. We have a fantastic manager. We have a fantastic Chairman. We have fantastic players. We play in a fantastic stadium. We play against fantastic teams. We play in a fantastic league. We know who we are.

Second tier football..and if you call free transfers and offering peanuts to players that may keep the club in the division(that choose to go elsewhere for said reasons) "backing" the manager,then I agree there's no backing whatsoever...of course you have to cut your cloth accordingly but you also have to take a risk now and again.the amount of footballers the club has lost out on over the past few years through a few extra pounds is nonsense..TS saved the club,which we should never forget,but unfortunately while he still has control of the club we are never going to go progress any further..its a embarrassing as a second tier club to constantly pick up scraps no other club wants

So only signings made via transfer fees can be considered as backing?
The amount of astute signings the club have made over the past few years is fantastic.
'A few extra pounds', which signings did we miss out on because of £20? Which clubs haven't missed out on signings due to financial reasons?
The club is not embarrassing. And to suggest some of our players are scraps is insulting, to say the least. A vast majority of players signed by clubs are because another club doesn't want them anymore. Why are we expected to sign players who everyone wants? How on earth do you plan on us bettering many other clubs in that scenario?

Don't know why we don't look at players from different countries like Sweden, Switzerland places like that for example I'm sure they'll be some decent strikers in other countries just as good but also cheaper.

Work permits not being easy to get since leaving the EU.

Our combination of Chairman and staff is exactly right for our position in the football hierarchy, it works well, it’s good

If we keep the same chairman and same staff it will continue, which is good and I’m happy with it.

But if a higher and consistent position up the football ladder is what we want then changes to the ‘ management team” and/or change of ownership is required. With that though comes an increased risk of disaster.

Personally I like where we are now.

What is required is surviving, by hook or by crook, on a league low budget. Then incrementally improving. Then we try and do a Luton. Luton is a blueprint for us in many ways but they didn't come up and spend millions. They battled away, survived, and built. But the first year trying to survive once going up is incredibly difficult, one we haven't achieved recently, unfortunately.

We can do it with those in the positions they are in currently, but it will be painful, particularly at this stage. Until we can bridge that initial gap, it will be this way. There is no real way around it. People need to come to terms with that. Just because we don't always get who we want, doesn't mean we don't try.

Fantastic posts Millerstime especially the first one which is one of the things that really annoy me when TS gets accused of a lack of ambition I personally think that a club reaches its natural level if you get what I mean and I think we’re at ours now yes in a sense we are overachieving you only need to look at the so called big clubs in the division below with the best will in the world we aren’t going to rise much higher without more backing financially and more bums on seats wise
Having said all that I’m like you and am happy we have a great chairman great manager and a team and stadium to be proud of
We are getting a reputation for finding and producing good young players who can come here and yes maybe use us as a stepping stone to bigger things but is that such a bad thing? Sounds like a good business model to me and is beneficial to club and player alike
