Harkes is not a defensive midfielder though, he's an offensive one, and a poor one at that.

We need a proper hard man.

This has got the Clough taking over Leeds Utd feel right now. Bad fit all round.

My personal suspicion is it’s got everything to do to with JR’s obsession with 4 at the back rather than 3 in the middle. Even though every man and his dog can see that we are/were much tighter last season with the Edwards/Mulgrew/Graham triumvirate.

Much as I would prefer the Sheep to Smith at RB as I feel he offers much more going forward, in his defence I felt today that Smith was reticent about pushing forward too far, less he exposes the pairing of Mulgrew and Edwards, who, let’s face it, aren’t exactly the paceist.

As above, I have a strong suspicion that the players want three in the middle at the back but JR won’t play that fiddle. So, the question is - where do we go from here? Do the Club tell the players to get a grip, listen to the manager and risk an absolute implosion this season? Or do we take the easy option - sack JR and get in a new coach who basically does what the players say and let the lunatics take over the asylum????

    Get him gone.

Why is there this obsession with taking recent failures from other clubs.

This 3/4 at the back argument is becoming an obsession,we should be able to beat Livingston and ST Mirren at home with 4 at the back.To suggest the manager should be sacked because he insists we play 4 at the back is FN ridiculous.Get an FN grip boys for phuck sake.If defenders cannie play in a back 4 they should take up another sport.

If there is any truth in the rumours that the players have thrown their toys oot the pram because they want to remain a defensive minded side then the manager should go to Tony and tell him we need a new central defender to play next to Graham and the others can sit on the bench.

I would love to know who scouted our new left back as i honestly think i could do a better job than him and i'm right footed.

the defenders arent at fault for the 4 at the back, its the complete lack of protection in front of them that a 4 needs. Teams have hit us fast on the break in the last 4 games and scored due to a non existent DM.... no way we concede half those goals with someone like Butcher, mcdonald, fuchs etc in there

I agree with that as every goal yesterday was on the break after we gifted possession to them.FFS Cudjoe was the last man for the 3rd.

Spot on big dog. Have our centre halves only played three at the back before they signed for us? I highly doubt it. We have two natural centre halves and two natural full backs. They should be able to play a four with shipping a barrow load of goals. The left back looks like a poor man's Adrian Sporle, which is saying something.

Two slack passes from Middleton to Fletcher and Levitt respectively led to the counters for the first two goals
