That generation knew hardship (probably not her) and could cope with life. My mother is only 94 and will be around for a while as well. Just a different generation that did not moan about what they never had only got on with what they had, which was very little.
This coming winter she is now leaving to the next lot to moan about and she deserves her rest..Insh'allah....
I'm personally feeling quite sad over the passing of the Queen -but she was 96.
I am the same age as you Mick and whilst I admit to having reached an age where I increasingly have thoughts about what I have or have not achieved in life and am more aware of my own mortality, 60 is no age and still many years ahead! I may not be as fit as I was even 5 years ago but thankfully no major health worries and still have most of my marbles . I do understand what you are saying but sometimes we all need a bit of "carpe diem" !
A remarkable woman who for most of us alive today have never known another Monarch. She was the constant, and served right up until her sad death. May God bless you Ma'am and rest peacefully, your duty has well and truly been fulfilled.
Trouble is plenty at 60 plus pass away so tomorrow may never come. How many are diagnosed with dementia etc from an early age? I know a number of people late fifties/early sixties who had no underlying illnesses or smoked or drank alcohol and have passed away! When your number is up

This is why getting to 96 and being sharp with all your marbles is fantastic!

I have been off the past few days from work on short break.
Over the last three years we have had more suicide attempts from people below the age of thirty on the unit then I can recall over the last fif**** years.
It is anecdotal evidence but stark none the less. There is a very serious developing issue with young adults with no life coping skills. It is tragic to see that people so young can feel so isolated in our connected society.
Older people have better coping skills and there are serious issues with the younger people.
Been around older people dying is ok, being around younger people dying is emotionally more difficult to work in.
Strange you say that Dubs as friends with a GP who says there’s a huge amount of under 40’s who have mental health issues and depression.
To be honest - I really feel for the younger generation what with Covid, Ukraine War and the cost of living crisis which is a huge worry for many to eat or heat. You can always get help or get by with money but extremely difficult when you are in debt.
One amazing fact her first PM Churchill was born in the 1870’s her last the 1970’s effectively a reign that spanned a hundred years, what changes have happened in that time! RIP
