Bannon was the record fee for a Scottish club, and that worked out pretty well
I never saw Bannon play for United in the flesh, a bit before my time. He was a player who had tremendous pace and along with Milne, we were electric down the flanks. These days we are like a bunch of geriatrics, with not a clue that we should go and try and win the game from the first whistle.

One of things that made Wee Jim an exceptional coach was that he had an eye for a player. The great teams had the Bannons and the Milnes but they also had great midfielders creating for them, putting the ball in the right place for them.

In those days United in full flow was something else, but they could all mix it. They could all handle the hard men and they never came off that pitch with anything left on it.

Bannon could blow a wee bit hot and cold.
The original CCFFS 😁 Maybe depending on how much insults he was getting from McLean although that's speculation on my part. But like Milne, on his day Bannon was almost unplayable.

Running at defenders eh? That's an idea.1

Was Bannon not a central midfielder when we signed him ? Converted into a winger. Probably a wing back before the term was invented.
Remember him playing for Stenhousemuir against us in one of the Mickey Mouse cups. He was at right back and still showed class.
