I'm not going slag off the players, they are the best we can afford on our budget. This is the aftermath of every successful season in league one. I just take Championship years as a bonus with no expectations at all , and I'm not often surprised at our results.
Our great start flattered to deceive. Even the average teams in this division make us look what we are, a good League one club.
I think you have very sensible expectations JG. There are going to be games in which we compete and ones in which we get totally over-run. Most RUFC supporters are content if the team puts in a good shift, regardless of the result. Our current problem is our relative lack of quality and the need to exert excessive energy to achieve results. With the ridiculous fixture schedule caused by an even more ridiculous World Cup, we are at a disadvantage and the players look more jaded during each successive game. Teams with good technical players don't need to invest too much effort to get results. There's no easy answer. Maybe rotating the squad and not necessarily playing the best players each time we turn out, but that would risk losing games and losing confidence. I just glad it's not my problem to solve!
It is being reported in the Coventry press that many of their players have had a virus, some were missing from yesterday’s game against Blackpool and it has been going on for a week. Just a thought may be some of our players had been affected after the midweek clash and that is why they were a bit sluggish. Or am I just trying to find any excuse for the performance. Coventry have got plenty of problems at the moment not just the virus so think ourselves lucky we don’t have their misfortunes .
Did we every get close enough to them to catch anything?
