A very sad morning after I heard that this earlier. The problem is that the BBC will no doubt bring in a black lesbian in a wheelchair (or similar) to fill that slot. The way in which Simon Mayo was treated, being landed with Jo Whitley (which showed where the talent really lay) before leaving was an absolute disgrace. Didn’t really like Steve Wright but he saw the writing on the wall and got out just retaining his Sunday show. The BBC are engaging in reverse discrimination and forcing out anyone who is older and male. Expect Alex Scott to be announced.

Funnily, Mrsgriff and I have been looking for alternative radio stations and stumbled on Greatest Hits Radio where we heard Mayo’s show and it sounds like that’s where most of the old BBC lot are going. Just seen that Ken Bruce has signed up with them too. The BBC are getting rid of the talent just to meet quotas. You have to be gay or female to work for them now.

I love Simon Mayo's Album show on Greatest Hits radio (Sunday afternoons) and have had several emails read out and suggestions played,Popmaster will no doubt follow Ken Bruce to his new station and if he's in his usual morning slot he will bring his followers with him, years back I felt that I had outgrown Radio 1 and moved to Radio 2,now I feel that I've outgrown Radio 2 and moved to Greatest Hits radio, what's the next step,Classic FM?

The only downside is the ads, but I can put up with that.

Steve Wright was always at his best on Radio 1 in the early eighties, with all the characters who used to phone in like Sid the manager, Mr Angry, Gervais the hairdresser, the professor, Damian the social worker, Barry from Watford etc. When he shifted to radio 2 and had "the posse" hogging much of his show it was never anything like as good, perhaps with the exception of "Ask Elvis".

Just listening to Simon Mayo’s show on GHR, it’s like rediscovering old friends.

Like I said his album show on a Sunday afternoon is excellent especially if ge reads out my emails and plays my suggestions,if a track gets played it's always the album version and not the crappy single edit, not sure if it's you old proggies thing though
