    Millwall v Burnley Match Preview

Venue :The Den, Zampa Road, London, SE16 3LN.
    Kick Off -19:45. Tuesday February 21 2023

This is a fixture Clarets Mad contributor Alto would have relished. Championship leaders Burnley against play off contenders Millwall. The Lions were a club dear to his heart and in the early kick off on Saturday they overcame second placed Sheffield United 3-2 with striker Tom Bradshaw netting a hat trick. The Clarets duly capitalised on the Blades slip up with a hard fought 1-0 away win at Luton that takes them eleven points clear at the top of the table. Now Millwall will be hoping to inflict a rare defeat on the Clarets at what is sure to be a packed out and noisy Den on Zampa Road. Zampa I think means claw and there is no doubt this will be a fiercely contested match with so much at stake for both teams.

Gary Rowett was appointed Millwall manager in October 2019 succeeding Neil Harris. Gary was a regular Premier League defender during his playing days and has accumulated a great deal of experience with Championship clubs in his managerial career. Rowett was in charge at Birmingham City, Derby County and Stoke before taking the reins at Millwall. Having taken Derby County into the play offs in the 2017-18 season Rowett will be keen to give Millwall a chance of promotion to the Premier League.

When these two sides met last August second half goals from Vitinho and Rodriguez gave Vincent Komany his first home win of the season. Millwall boast an impressive home record of their own with 9 wins and only two defeats in 15 games. They are unbeaten at home in their last 10 league games. After picking up injuries against Watford and Luton respectively Jordan Beyer and Nathan Tella could recover in time for Tuesday’s game but Benson, Rodriguez and Taylor Harwood-Bellis are all still sidelined. Millwall may well retain the same eleven that kicked off against Sheffield United though George Honeyman could replace Oliver Burke.

Hi outwoodclaret, you are the the 1st one to realise that Zampa means claw, my avatar and the name of the road leading into the Den. First I would also like to pay homage to Altobelli a true friend of the Lions, sadly missed. Also good friend of your Alfie. Well it looks like you are destined to return to the Premier but i bet you have enjoyed your time in the Championship a League where any one can beat anyone, that is why it is the 3rd most attended after the Premier and Bundersliga in the whole of Europe. As for the game on Tues we need the points you don't, but you do give a very fair picture of our 2 teams.

A good job on your preview of the game outwoodclaret and you are right Altobelli used to do it before and would have loved to watch the game tomorrow so I think we can think of him before kick off.

Very true Claw, me and quite few other Burnley fans are not particularly enamoured at the prospect of a return to the money-grubbing Premier League, we like it where we are, and that's not because we're top of it either.

I am sure Alto will be in the thoughts of many of us before kick off claw. This is a midweek match with a lot of travelling for many supporters but I hope the ground is packed or nearly so. There is usually a good group of London based Clarets. Here’s to a good match and best of luck to both clubs.

There has to be a limit on the spending !!!! In the last 2 transfer windows Chelsea have spent £600 million and they still can't beat the Saints at home Just plain nonsense. By comparison the most Millwall have spent on a player is £1.7 mil on a Dutch player in the Summer.

    .

If Millwall had a burning game against Sheffield.....they'd be a tea candle competing with a wet match.

the blades were blunt, and with a pathetic display in defence, handed the game to an otherwise toothless lions who couldn't even stop a team playing like they were in the relegation zone putting two goals past them, Stay solid (as Coventry) and they're cluelsss, make mistakes like QPR (the better team) and they steal the points.

If we can't beat this shower of shlit, we should be docked 20 points, put Barnes in goal and make VK appear at all remaining games wearing the makeup of a clown.

    Alto would agree.....

Yes Alfie, no doubt I will, but if it is as entertaining as last sat's win I will be well pleased. Just a shame it is not on a sat in front of a full house. Don't think VK has been down the Den as a manager.
