Right then Stefan,I got let down on something today and unexpectedly had the afternoon free so I decided to get out the popcorn and give it a view

I don't know where to start but it's not what I expected at all so let's get the negatives out of the way first...

The inclusion of tanks, postcard stands, machine guns, modern paper money, cash registers and grenades in the market scene was just silly and I thought that it detracted from the story,it's not that they don't belong 2000 years ago but seem pointless,is it supposed to be zany,I dunno but it didn't work for me, scaffolding in certain scenes was meaningless,it would have been easier just to leave it out

    The positives...

The songs was good, infact very good, stand out songs being Heaven on their Minds,I don't know how to love Him and What's the Buzz being instantly likeable,Carl Anderson who played Judas was superb as was Yvonne Elliman who played Mary,I had heard I Don't know How To Love Him before but I had no idea it was from JCS,King of the Jews was well funny and really enjoyed that scene even with the yellow sunglasses and swimming pool reference, bonkers but enjoyable lyrics, the long tasseled 70's clothes in Superstar was apt in my opinion as it made the girls look like they represented Angels but the feather(?) outfits i wasn't bothered about, the Last Supper scene was also enjoyable to watch

All in all an enjoyable watch and will probably watch it again now I've got the jist of the songs and characters and if Melvin Bragg got paid for providing the dialogue in it then hes a bloody genius at negotiations

Hey JC, you're alright with me .. 8/10

Seeing you enjoyed the film I am sure you will like the stage show even more.

Not far to travel either. Nottingham Royal Concert Hall. 8 Jan 2024 - 13 Jan 2024.

For me the best moment in any of it was in the stage show experiencing that brief fanfare leading into 'Superstar'. We know in advance what it signifies. I could actually sense the air vibrating, which is what live theatrical sound can do. You do not quite get that in any other medium.

Still shouldn't be a problem. You'll be able to take it out of your Both sides to score winnings tomorrow night.

I was going to say that if I win I will donate two tickets for you and Stefan to have a night out but there's nothing near Carlisle

As boredom due to bad weather was setting in I thought that I would give JCS another watch now that I had some idea of what was going on in the film, anywsy I’ve noticed that there’s a Live In Concert version from New York ready to view and I wondered if it’s any good or not,it’s got John Legend in who I like but also Alice Cooper who I don’t
