Thread: Universal Income?

I have not really followed this story in the media so I could be a little off the mark. However, as I understand it, everyone would receive universal credit. If wealthy subjects wish to opt out then I guess they can. If they choose not to opt out then they would not be committing any criminal act.

It is a simple system in reality. However, how it is financed is perhaps what needs to be considered. And further, if it is to be successful then it would need to keep up with inflation, otherwise the poorer people in our society could once again find themselves in a position whereby they fall beneath the poverty line.

It sounds like a good idea.

The very first word of this thread is 'Interesting' and that's exactly what this idea is.

No the majority of people don’t have a conscience and many who are comfortable couldn’t give two s hits about those who are desperate!

Bit like saying all the illegals who pile in - who blames them when they get away with it Scot free and handed everything on a plate!

Getting to the point with those who don’t pay tax - who blames them when the system does not come down hard! Why would many be encouraged to be honest when looking at our government and some in the royal family feathering their nests!
The whole point tho Al is that everyone gets it so no one fleeces the system and those genuinely in need are looked after by the state. If done properly in one fell swoop it would fix the glaring holes in our welfare system that many avoid and many miss out on.

Hope your right Dave but not convinced many comfortable people will be even more comfortable - just like the energy support to everyone and the bounce back loans which many ripped off!

Despite all our best efforts to explain this this last post proves you STILL DON'T GET IT. Energy support and bounce back loans are about as far removed from UBI as the Albion are from winning the Champions League.I now give up.

You are right but I do get it! Still will be given though to those who don’t need it and inverted commas could legally keep it! Surely you get this?

There will always be those who fiddle line does not wash with me! Perhaps Sir Tom’s daughter should get a prison sentence as clearly she didn’t need the cash but …,,,

Come up with a system that’s as fiddle proof as possible with a jail sentence for fraud! Now - I would definitely be very positive!

It’s really simple, it saves EVERYBODY, nobody should slip through the net.

That’s the be all and end all, if the duplicitous rich get it and slip through the tax net then so what.

If the super rich and very wealthy are dodging tax they’ll be doing it on an industrial scale…….this £1600 a month is loose change in comparison to what they’re already nicking…..pennies in the £.

There’s another point to this anyway…..it’s not the government’s money that’s being dished out……it’s OUR money!

I’d rather they gave everyone £1600 and had less to waste on stupid schemes.

You have explained thank you and I got it immediately but my point still remains - many who don’t need it will pocket it like almost every scheme!

Perhaps I shouldn’t give a f uck and let many fraudulently do what they want! Record number of illegals entering yesterday ( almost 700). Past caring on that too as they won’t be in my town that’s for sure! So why should I still be bothered!

If you can’t beat them - join them or shine your mobile phone which is more useful than a chocolate tea pot.

PS - I hope all these illegals get the 1600 too as only fair as they are being persecuted and it would be so so unfair!
