Great, thank you. Easy enough then. A few places there I'd like to go see us win

The First Qualifying Round of the Champions League begins this week. Some of the losers of the ties could provide the opposition for us.

Any dates for draws for this yet? I'm well out the loop this time around.

So here's how things currently stand with regard to who we might draw in the Europa league play off round.

We are one of six "pot 1" seeded teams. It gets increasingly complicated but here goes as to who we can get.

    1. Lugano (SWI)

    2. and 3. The winners of the following two ties

Dnipro-1 (UKR) or Panathinaikos (GRE) vs Slavia Praha (CZE)
Servette (SUI) or Genk (BEL) vs Olympiakos Piraeus (GRE)

4.,5. and 6. This is the most complicated. The following 10 Champions League ties will obviously produce 10 winners and 10 losers. We are only interested in the 10 losers (so we want all the seeded teams to win). The 10 losers will play each other (unseeded draw) with the 5 winners of those ties dropping into the Europa League play off round. So we can get any one of those 5 winners as options 4,5 or 6.

Žalgiris Vilnius (LTU) or Galatasaray (TUR)
Ludogorets (BUL) or Olimpija Ljubljana (SVN)
Raków Czestochowa (POL) or Qarabağ (AZE)
KÍ Klaksv*k (FRO) or Häcken (SWE)
HJK Helsinki (FIN) or Molde (NOR)
    Breidablik (ISL) or Copenhagen (DEN)
Sheriff Tiraspol (MDA) or Maccabi Haifa (ISR)
Aris Limassol (CYP) or BATE Borisov (BLR)
Zrinjski Mostar (BIH) or Slovan Bratislava (SVK)
GNK Dinamo (CRO) or Astana (KAZ)

Clear as mud eh? Who else hankers for 32 teams in the hat and you draw who you draw?

Draw is on 7th August although unless we get Lugano we won't know who we play until 15/16/17 August so not much time to arrange flights/hotels etc if our first leg is away from home

Excellent work Red Zone, even I'm able to understand it all (and that's saying something).

Would I be correct in saying that Belarus, Turkiye, Israel and Slovakia are the only countries amongst that lot where the Dons have never played in a UEFA competition?

Bratislava for me, just up the road.

    Avoid the Faroe Isles.

Moldova (Nistru Otaci - Aug 2002)

We have played Faroese opposition before, just not in the Faroes (a one-legged home tie against NSI Runavik - Aug 2020, during Covid).

    I stand corrected.
