First-half goals from Dan Crowley and Richard Brindley were enough to earn us victory at the New Bucks Head.

The hosts were the first to go close, seeing a deflected effort clip the post on its way behind.

We responded with the opening goal on 10 minutes as Jodi Jones’ excellent cross was headed home by Crowley inside the area.

Telford had a golden opportunity to equalise nine minutes later, sending a shot wide when clear through on goal, shortly before David McGoldrick curled a beautiful effort just wide from 20 yards.

We only had to wait another two minutes to have the ball in the net again, though, as Brindley met Jones’ half-cleared cross with a sweet strike from 20 yards.

The best of the first-half action concluded with McGoldrick curling another effort wide before, two minutes later, sending a shot over.

And he went even closer after the break, showing a lovely drop of the shoulder before crashing a 20-yard effort off the underside of the bar.

Langstaff would also continue to be denied as he sent an awkward, volleyed effort over following good work from Jones, before seeing a left-footed shot saved after being played in by Crowley.

Luke Williams made lots of changes on 70 minutes and one of the fresh faces, Cedwyn Scott, produced a fine save from the Telford keeper shortly after his introduction.

Fellow substitute Jim O’Brien was the next to have a go, drawing a good save from the keeper with a curling effort from outside the area.

And the man between the sticks frustrated us yet again before the final whistle blew, saving low from Scott and watching on as a defender bravely blocked Luther Munakandafa’s follow-up.

Aidan Stone had been a bystander for most of the game but was forced into a half-decent save following a rare Telford attack – one which proved to be the last of the game.

Starting XI: Stone; Cameron (Mahovo 45'), Trialist (Chicksen 70'), Brindley (Cisse 70'); Jones (McGregor 70'), Randall (Austin 45'); Bostock (Palmer 70'), Bajrami (O'Brien 70'), McGoldrick (Gill 70'), Crowley (Munakandafa 70'); Langstaff (Scott 70')

    Unused subs: Trialist (GK)

I wonder how far from fitness Slocombe is? I'm intrigued to see who Luke Williams sees as his number one keeper, so I hope Slocombe can make his case to keep the shirt before the real action starts.
