So, on to a team that might restore a bit of pride (433)

GK Wildsmith - one error this season, two great saves last night, I just hope Warne doesn't use him as a scapegoat

RB Smith - very effective out of position last year, less effective as a midfielder but better than this seasons incumbent

CH Cashin - his quality appears to have deserted him but no surprise being a youngster next to the lumox standing next to him

CH Forsyth - Player of the season so far, I'd also make him captain

LB whoever - no chance of replacing the quality of Roberts, we'll just have to hope the opposition don't notice

MF1 - Rooney, raw but rugged he wouldn't let us down through effort

MF2 - Thompson - another ferret who will run for his place

MF3 - Very reluctantly Hourihane. Why do the fans clap him when he goes to take a corner, they have been awful so far

    CF1 - Washington. Give him a chance

CF2 - Waghorn. On form the best player we have, he showed it in flashes last night despite awful close control

Winger - Mendez-Laing for the first half, if he's as unproductive as last night give Elder a chance

Maybe Sibley at LB if fit? Could play Wilson at RB and keep Smith in midfield. Otherwise agreed.

which is actually as much of last year's team as we can put out.

Current best quote from the internet is this (which I don't actually agree with because I DON'T like Warne particularly):

'Warne seems a nice bloke, I just don't want him to pick the team any more'.

Let’s hope so, GP. If he sticks with last night’s formation and as many of the same personnel as are available...a battering.
If he changes to 4 at the back, drops Bradley, plays NML out wide and finds a leader with the power of speech...then maybe, just maybe we’ll get a win.

I need to stop agreeing with you so much rA I'm starting to get me worried. 'The Power Of speech' - thinking of MacKay, VDL, Stimac, and especially from last season Davies, then what we have now, I think Hourihane should accept its not his gig and pass it on to Fozzy, who as well as playing (relatively) well handled last nights interview extremely well

Why Rooney a defender in midfield? I'd have him at RB, where he has played well in the past and have Smith in midfield where he belongs. Elder at LB, otherwise I agree, though the issue with Washington is his fitness after his injury, so Collins would probably start.

Because I assess him as a better grafter than Smith albeit its not h (I'll word this careis position, and I assess Smith as an adequate RB going by last year's efforts. But its marginal. What's a fact is that we are in the **** because a) it looks like (it only LOOKS like, lets hope its temporary) Warne's new recruits are for the most part inferior to their predecessors and b) be they good or bad the players are not being guided/mentored/coached well. Lots of people around the internet are saying don't worry, remember how Jim Smith's first season developed, but this feels different

I know, unnerving isn’t it? Don’t worry...it’ll all change when politics rears it’s ugly head again.

Can’t compare this with Jim Smith’s first season for two reasons...1) it isn’t Warne’s first season, he’s been in place for eleven months, two and a half of which were very encouraging. 2) Unlike the Bald Eagle, Warne can’t make a season changing signing in late October.
Agree with you about Fozzy...but I think, at the start of last season never mind this one, we all expected Fozzy to be a ‘bit’ player, a more than useful utility player provided he could stay injury free. The fact that he’s proved to be a bit of a ‘star’ is great credit to him but also tells us something about the performances of the rest. Could he be captain? Seems to be a dearth of other candidates at the moment...I honestly thought it’d be Bradley but until he sorts his own game out that’s not possible. Tbh Bradley Johnson could still do a better job, and perform better in midfield, than some we saw last night.

P.S. Jamie Ward was sitting behind the dugout last night...only 37!
