Romared Match Thoughts Port Vale v Barnsley

I'd imagine Vale will be well up for this boxing day clash after the 7-0 hiding they took from ourselves on the opening day of the season .

It wasn't a 7-0 game as most of us know and I firmly believe we will do very well to come away with the three points at Vale Park .

Funny thing though , the last time we played Vale on boxing day was in 1978 and we ran out 6-2 winners with an Allan Clarke hatrick .

We lost the return on Easter Saturday at Vale Park 3-2 and as I remember we were outfought .

Not the best surface either to play on isn't Vale Park and Collins would do well to factor that in to his pre match preparation .

I'd like to see Cosgrove and McAtee up top and give Cole the day off .

There might be some joy with that front two in my opinion on a poor surface and a more direct approach .

Collins however may see it differently of course !!!

I think Cole would benefit from. Couple of games rest. For me he hasn’t been sharp enough in the last few games….. looks like he has been believing the press hype about his goal scoring worth…. He had done well early doors, but a spell on the bench may sharpen his mind

The 7-0 was a freak result. I haven’t forgotten that Vale dominated for the first 20 minutes at Oakwell.

    Tough game ahead I suspect.

Yep. They've just come off a decent cup run which shows they're a decent team on their day. Also, the players and manager will want to 'Entertain' their new potential owners (Phil the Power Taylor and Robbie Williams) 😉

Pooart Vale are one of those teams unlikely to go up and unlikely to go down.

The dunt know what tha'll get from them from match to match, having won 7 and lost 9 so it could go either way. Who is most "up for it" this fine Boxing Day.

I don't see anywhere near a 7-0 result today. One of our recruitment striker hopefuls, Andy Dallas, scored that game. After 4 games for us he went out on loan to Kilmarnock, where he has yet to score. How things change. His fellow recruitment striker hopeful Ollie Shaw went on loan to Motherwell where he is yet to score.

Sitting on the fence with this one.

Once again I think it will be tight but I always fancy us away a lot more than at home & I fancy us to bring the points back home

Think ittul be a tight affair but we'll sneak this one today imo. Vale will be weary of over committing after what happened on the opening day when we punished them severely. Surely this will be at the forefront of their minds

IMO we were suffering an hangover from Wembley so it took the players a bit of time to kick into gear.
But importantly the team was still playing in the high press style.
The Kitchen goal was a good example of that.

When have we seen central defenders or even wingbacks getting forward like that since Collins got his full set of claws into tactics ???

Ive seen our wingbacks go AWOL on a regular basis. Cadden is one of the worst culprits for it. But that might be the way hes been told to play.

Im not having we were 7 goals better than vale based on performance. They smashed us for 20 minutes and should have scored several times. Possesion was 50/50 shots on target 12/14 in Vales favour, corners 3/6 Vales favour. Enough said??
