I agree with CT's position. Trying to moderate posts on the basis that they are 'woke' or 'anti-woke' - or whatever - is fraught with difficulty. What one person considers unacceptable may be a mainstream view to others.

The moderators are responsible for setting the tone of the board however. If they allow a free for all where offensive and irritating posts are allowed to flourish then people will vote with their keyboards and stop posting. Quite a few people have done that already.

As for the site rules posted by Cam, I would suggest that there may be an issue if one of the moderators is happy to author abusive posts (and invite his chums to take part in a pile on). Who is moderating him?

Kerr, if you are referring to me, there's only three of us, then use my name. Where exactly am I happy to 'allow abusive posts (and invite his chums to take part in a pile on). My reference was to joke telling that some find offensive on here, and just who are these 'chums?"

Most western democracies are following suit. Scotland have new hate speech rules. France have a law where politicians can’t be criticised during elections 😂

No they are not! I was referring to joke telling not daily direct posting on all of the above you mention.

The sticky sounds a good idea, imagine all the rubbish we wouldn't have to sort behind the scenes?

It’s a good idea. Then whenever anyone crosses the line they can be reprimanded or banned.
What immediately follows your post is why I maintain that resistance is far too strong for me to waste my time (and to put myself up to be shot at).

It really shouldn't be difficult to establish what is clearly unacceptable, what deters new (more diverse) posters, and what is racy, but generally classed as banter. As has been pointed out by a few, these are fully grown adults.

    Libelous, relatively clear. Flag directly.
Racism, religious hate, homophobia, clear (plenty cases in the media) and following the basic principles of law is an obvious starting point.
Ageism, misogyny, in the main is unlikely to be close to a legal issue (on here at least), so it's harming the forum IF it wants to attract different members.
Humour in poor taste, as previous.
Mods should be savvy enough to quietly address provocative/inciteful language... although one repeatedly uses a homophobic slur, so maybe some education wouldn't hurt.

There's nothing groundbreaking to worry about... apply a similar, albeit relative, level of reaction as you'd expect in a workplace and it's probably a better footing.

Don't agree that the overarching forum rules are too useful. Mostly legal cover for them and not a set of standards an individual forum may wish to apply.

As I said more than once, I'm a newbie, and this ain't mine. All observations, happy to STFU if they're rocking anyone's boat.

All good points but please enlighten me to the homophobic slur 'I repeatedly use' so as to take note not to use it in the future?

"Cupcake" is considered to be a homophobic and/or se.xist slur, depending on your geography.
