I just found last nights show on mixcloud which started with ‘caught in a whirlwind’ so I’m a convert already. Sits nicely with my usual go-to station, Funky Radio out of Italy which is more upbeat

Bank Holiday Sunday August 25th, 4PM till 1AM on the Monday. Soul at the Venue, Abbey Street, Derby.

One of the DJs is my good self. Anybody up for it, it's free entry. Not expecting masses of you but a couple of you turning up would be excellent.

I’ll suggest it to the soul-loving faction of my friends

On a similar tack but different genre, the worlds premier neo rockabilly band (although there are about a dozen other bands who claim this) THE POLECATS are playing their only U.K. gig of the year on August 11 at Derby’s Hairy Dog. I’ll be there being even less sociable than normal as I’ll be scribbling a review for my magazine and possibly psyching myself up for an interview with the band (hopefully not I’m a useless interviewer so looking to offload that). In the unlikely event you decide to attend, don’t expect any ballads. I may publish my review here just for y’all to have a laugh at

Spent the evening being introduced to the mellow sounds of Idles at Glastonbury by my youngest son. Much to be recommended although maybe not for your set on 25-08, MA

The whole Glasto coverage is good filler on a rainy afternoon, I'll give Idles a check later. Good old Eric, still active at his age

RIP John Mayall. First saw him in the early ‘70’s. Last saw him about twelve years ago at Buxton…not far from his place of birth.
Got to 90…and performing until recently. Few have contributed more to the British music scene over the last sixty years.
