It wasn't jackal's views on Scott's starting position I thought were unreasonable, I said the same myself, it was this:

SM did go through a period last season of playing players out of position for reasons I couldn't understand, but in my head I've chalked that down to experience and given him a clean slate for this season.

The reason he's playing Scott and Chicksen there, and Crowley deep, now is because he can't play his real first choice XI because of injuries and recruitment delays. Not because he's trying to catch sides out or because he likes messing with tactics. imo.
I hope you are right because it's frustrating watching Scott stuck out on the left contributing nothing and Chicksen passing backwards all the time.

Apologies for this, because it has been done to death a bit, but for instance he’s playing Jones on the right because he thinks it’s the best place for him. He played him there last season when he did have a ton of other options.

He mentioned in the magpie circle podcast that he likes a bit of unpredictability and as Jackal says, he wants to match up to other team’s supposed strengths and weaknesses.

Personally I think those who think we’re going to start putting players in their generally accepted best positions when everyone’s fit are going to be disappointed, our coach’s insecurities about others will see to that.

My lad read out his record to me earlier on, 20ish points from 22 games, Maynard’s a lucky man, surely no other Notts coach has been kept on with that record over half a season at this level. It seems to be a case of crossing our fingers and hoping that things will improve.

If his winless run continues after Thursday, his luck may start to run out...

I share your concerns, and we'll know a lot more after Thursday which is a game I'd target for a win. I guess I think I've seen some signs that this might work, but I bet the executive branch have been impressed that we're still leaking horror goals.
