First half we were absolutely all over them and could’ve been 5 or 6 up and it wouldn’t have been a surprise.

Second half was a bit of a non event given we, as most teams seem to do, took our foot off the gas. Still had a couple of decent chances. Don’t remember our keeper making a save of note.

Could it be another season of us looking a threat on the road but struggling to break teams downs at home again? Let’s hope we can get a run going at home starting next Saturday.

Well I expected a much tougher task at Crawley.
    Barnsley dominated.
    Positives included:

ORGANISATION - what a difference a season makes - or should that be HC.
We look at totally different team - the high press is better than Duff and back to how it was under Ismael.
    Speed and movement is excellent.
It’s geat to see - and it’s now a pleasure to watch.
    Thank goodness for Darrell Clarke.

Phillips - starting to get more involved and looking like a proper player.
I’ve not been a fan but he’s now looking good.

    Marsh - a lot don’t like him - but I do.
IMO he’s better than the two more senior forwards Watters and Cosgrove.

Yoga - the more I see of this kid the more I like him.
An 18 year old that if he can keep progressing as he is - is going to be a reyt player.

    Negatives:
Very few - because all in all we were very very good.
But we should have won this 0-8.
And as much as l prefer marsh to other strikers at the club - we would have won by something like 0-8 if we had a Morris or Dike on the field.

We had a number of away performances like that under Duff , the early away win at Hillsborough was extremely similar .

We should have had five or six that day too .

Still not seeing the vertical football YN , perhaps you can enlighten me .

We had only 26 % of possession today - and absolutely battered Crawley.
That’s because when we get possession we now move it quicker going forward.

Under Collins we had as much as 26 % possession during a match just tip tapping the ball between our own defenders.

    And there lies the difference.
And it’s as clear as the nose on yer face.
If yer can’t see it then yer not watching the game.

Out in Portugal, and only seen a twitter clip, but it could have been a few more. Lets hope the signings are of a lesser ego than the ones we lost…. I actually think that we will have more of a “team spirit” this year.
Last home game I watched Adam Phillips trudge unhappily round the pitch clapping fans at the end of the game a mile behind the rest of the team thought “thats his last match for us”….. So glad I was wrong. I would have made him captain. Pleased for jim today.

Let us hope competition spurs them on.

The unsettling and emotional week may produce some tired legs and I'm going for Crawley to take advantage 2-0.
One maybe right, one certainly wrong !

    Just seen highlights,

Crawley look like last season's Carlisle but you can only beat the team in front of you.

No what you saw from Barnsley was counter-attacking football and Crawley allowed us to transition quickly , as I said earlier in this thread it was almost a mirror image of the performance under Duff that resulted in a 2-0 win at Hillsborough early in that season .

It was an absolute million miles from anything we saw under Val .

What was apparent was that Crawley had absolutely no pace at the back so when the Crawley defence did push up they were massively exposed because they kept either giving the ball away or dwelled on it and allowed us to nick it off them especially in the middle of the pitch .

They were done for as a consequence and got hugely outnumbered when they coughed it up , Philips had about three options before he was pulled down for the penalty .

They also looked a very tired outfit too , a small squad who a few days previously had been chasing PL players for 90 minutes and it clearly took a lot out of them .

Stendel was here during the transition from the old system to the new.
We can’t gauge Schopp and Asbaghi as they had Conway on their backs.

Struber, Ismael, Duff and now Clarke - they may tweak it - but stick to the script laid down by the club.
Collins plainly didn’t - and got the sack for it.
And Mladan alluded to that in his interview after the sacking.

Ismael found playing the system was better at 343.
    Duff and Struber preferred 352.
Clarke says he will use all formations open to him - including 541 which he played against Crawley.

But all play with attacking central defenders and wingbacks.
All use a well drilled high press.
And all move the ball forward quickly - irrespective of how much possession they have.

Collins didn’t do any of the above.
He should have been sacked 5 games into the season when it was clear he didn’t understand the Barnsley Way.
    A season lost.
And along with it £££millions of potential income.

Question still to be answered is - who was it at Barnsley that thought Collins was suitable for Barnsley ?
