    Ron Yeats Liverpool capt R.I.P

Has passed away aged 86 .
I saw him lift Liverpool Ist ever FA cup.
My Dad won 2 tickets for the final , the tickets came from the match referee Bill Clements who came from West Brom .
We wasn't allowed to say who put the tickets up for raffle at the time .
Bill came to school later to talk about reffing the cup final and showing us his medal .
There were some great battles with Jeff Astle and the orignal big Ron .

I never saw him play but he was legendary.

Apparently, when he signed for Liverpool Bill Shankley invited the press into the dressing room and made them stand around Yeates.

So as they stood their Shankley piped up and said, “Look at him, isn’t he magnificent, what a specimen of a young man, a colossus”…….typical Shankley but he was clearly in awe of the then young Yeates.
