I watched the game and first half England did play with more fluidity and attacking intent than we have been used to under Southgate-but then Ireland were woefully poor and allowed England far too much possession and space. Second half, ROI made a few changes and came into the game far more with Ogbene in particular causing a few problems. Certainly no stand out but I thought Molumby had a decent enough game.

As for all the media talk of a new era of "Carsball" and of "taking the handbrake off", this seems a little premature at best as second half England's energy level dropped off and they seemed to revert to playing to type. Having dominated the first half, they struggled to retain that level of control in the second as Ireland stopped sitting back so much and played with more intent themselves.

I do agree the national anthem should not be about royalty - does jug ears get some satisfaction listening to those who sing it? God couldn’t save anyone if you were swimming in the bush with a big whacking croc heading towards you FFS!

The song should be Jerusalem without a doubt with all the English flags flying from every government building and at every sporting event!

I maybe a sole voice, but I expect the English born England Manager to sing the National Anthem. I would require it as a condition of his employment. He may of course choose not to…no worries…but no job.

All I will say - he’s not doing himself any favours by refusing to sing it! T osser!

If it were a refusal to wear the poppy in the way that James McLean does then that would be totally unacceptable but this is completely different.

Why should anyone swear allegiance to a king or queen if they don’t believe in royalty?

It’s the same with religion, I refuse to say The Lords Prayer even though I was born C of E as I’m a non believer, I stand respectfully at a funeral or church service with my head bowed paying my own personal homage to the departed or to those being wedded.

I was at a relative’s Jehovah’s Witness funeral earlier this year and stood motionless with head bowed during singing and prayers.

You can remain respectful in ANY of these types of circumstances as I’m sure Carsley will.

I admire him for not being a fraud and being honest and true.

I’ll admire him even more when he drops Kane to the bench and starts playing someone who can actually run and beat a man.

You associate a national anthem though with pride of being a national to that country - pity ours relates to the King. If it was let’s say Jerusalem - would he sing it then? Probably not!

There’s no identity or sense of being proud in this country of country and flag like Spain or the USA. Probably because there will be an outcry by flying our national flag from some Council
    Buildings in some Towns!

I have seen more Palestinian Flags in this country in the last year than our own flags. So sad!

When I was in Barcelona the Spanish flag was flying everywhere! Good on them as they love their country!
