I'm not sure the new format will help the competition in general. Time will tell I guess. No doubt it'll ensure the usual suspects all qualify and keep their piggy snouts in the financial trough.

We've got a lot to look forward to, a long way to go.

Good times ahead bonny lads and lasses

Not opposed it it but there are levels.

If they gave Championship clubs an opportunity to play KO qualifiers against some of the 'Champions' from the weaker leagues in Europe I'm sure you'd see some of the those teams playing in Europe.
Im not saying they are on par with top teams in Premierleague or Germany, or Spain.

But they did earn to play in “Champions” league by winning their championships. Instead of that they what, need to qualify through couple of rounds against so-called other minor leagues outcasts?
And they dont stand any chance being poor financially, because, for example, Dortmund steals their share of big money pie, despite not winning the league in decade.

And as for Toon also playing in CL not being champions - I do believe there would be a greater chance of winning the league if the likes of Manu or Arsenal wouldnt get that mega money cash injection from UEFA every fking year.

P.S. Just saw Croatia champions fighting toe to toe against Germany runners-up, thats the Champions League we were dreaming of

There is absolutely a conversation about a 'Cup Winners Cup', however, sadly, it's all about the money now.

Thus more proof we were robbed in our group by that corrupt penalty in Paris!

Aye, but that’s 6 matches played in the group, I think they’re playing 8 matches in the 1st round now? I could be wrong on that though

3 home matches, 3 away matches I thought?

    Just checked. You are correct!

How does the new 'league phase' format work?
The 36 teams form a single league, with each entrant playing eight different clubs, four at home and four away. Three points are awarded for a win and one for a draw.

    That's pretty Grueling opening stage
