I didn't feel like I was being confrontational. Again, I apologise if I came across that way, it certainly wasn't my intention.

I was specifically referring to the comments that you were comparing Trump's comments about tariffs and deportations in the same way that they have been interpreted by the anti-Trump media and gave some examples of how the threat of tariffs would stop many US companies moving their businesses overseas.

I also couldn't see what relevance the deportation of illegal immigrants bore on the economy, apart from the fact that unscrupulous employers would have to employ legitimate people and pay them a legitimate wage.
    Ok fair enough.

I think the explanation you gave of tariffs is the absolute best case scenario, i.e., you just threaten them and you never have to use them. In reality they usually turn into tariff wars which mean things get more expensive.

The relevance of the deportations is that it would increase wages for the reason you mentioned. Paying local people more money to do traditional immigrant jobs may well have social benefits but it would also increase prices, whether that be in terms of passing on the higher wage costs to the consumers or shortages of produce that doesn't get picked in the usual quantities leading to higher prices.

When Biden stepped aside, I thought anyone but Harris. Her vice-presidency had been pretty unimpressive and seemed like the wrong candidate. It was a big surprise to me that they chose her, without the primaries, so quickly. I thought I hope they know what they're doing. They didn't.

Seems pretty much done and dusted at this point.

    Yeah, same.

I wasn't confident she would win but I thought it would be closer than this.

Electoral College win, looks like popular vote win for first time in a long time, Senate, House, Supreme Court in his pocket. All hail the new God-King of the USA!

Back to the drawing board for the Democrats to find some policies people actually like and a leader who can talk about convincingly and at length about important issues.

Yeah, what an awful candidate Kamala was. Uninspiring, dizzy, unable to articulate simple points or explain her policies or ideas clearly. Just aimless platitudes.

I thought it would closer than it has been because she had the entire machine cranking into gear behind her, but I'm pleasantly surprised that the American public mostly ignored the shouts of "Hitler" from desperate Democrats, the media, and the rotten celebrities she wheeled out at her rallies.

I think it's understandable that Americans want to take a different direction and have voted for change rather than more of the same, despite Trump's obvious flaws.

It's amazing to me what a free ride Trump as a candidate got. Every criticism of Harris (and/or previously of Biden) could be applied to him a hundred-fold - actually watch his rallies and he was totally uninspiring, dizzy, he's old and loses track of sentences all the time, couldn't explain a single policy if his life depended on it... and yet here we are, the American people chose him over her.

And as a reminder, an early shout of "Hitler" came from Trump's own VP pick.

The US will certainly get a different direction. I honestly don't think the US constitution survives this coming term, but as to where that leaves the US, we'll see.

so happy I'm not a Latino trans unicorn who needs an abortion in Texas rn.

Global response to climate change out the window. Good luck Ukraine. Whatever they do with the economy, watch how they shape the courts. I'll be really surprised if this goes well for the US, but what do I know.

    and his archangel Musk

My wife commented on Harris "Why is she always just laughing and not saying anything?".

God help he world. Some vile leaders in the world will be rubbing their hands in glee. Markets seem happy, I suppose that is some consolation to my personal pension
