Plus the tackle on Abbott which was pretty much next to me. I almost had to restrain middle Mouf junior (okay she's 17) from having a word herself. Mind you it did give Abbott the opportunity to show what he is made of when he gave it back at the first opportunity.

edit: sorry was a reply to September's point about the Gillingham match.

I think this is a pretty good summary by Barney Ronay.

Agreed, a very good article and assumption.

It's OK, but as a journalist, he doesn't get to decide what Coote's punishment will be, so the statement 'Coote is done as an elite referee now' is not his to make. This event took place four years ago and Coote is no worse a referee this week than he was last.

The lesson to take from this is that the abuse of referees by the likes of Klopp is now totally out of control, and if urgent action is needed, that's the first thing to look at. But God help Coote if he does try to carry on with the massed forces of Scousehood now united against him, egged on by the media to believe they have been hard done by, yet again.

Another great post and well thought reasoning.
The only point of contention is referees' being abused by the likes of Herr Klopp.
This sort of attitude started at Old Trafford , did it not under the regime of the dour Scotsman ?
The shocking haranguing of Andy D'Urso often referred to by Roy Keane, as an example .,
It would have been interesting if Clive Thomas was the referee that day !
Strictly applying the Laws , to the letterwas his style throughout his career.
Cards a plenty for all involved most likely a few red ones.
Recalling the fear Ferguson instilled in officials, only one penalty was awarded against MU in nine seasons !
Allegedly , the lino who flagged it, was demoted at the end of the season on Ferguson' s insistence !

Of course he doesn't get to decide, and I don't think he should be finished as a ref, but he probably will be. Personally I hope it can be forgotten about - footballers do much worse and get accepted back into the game so it should be possible.

Agree completely with your second paragraph, particularly the part about abuse of refs.
