Does making a prediction that is based on including his navigating the business end of last season hold less value than making a prediction on this season's PPG alone which is massively inflated by a 4 game winning streak at the very start of this campaign, 3 of which were against sides currently 19th or lower.
That?s better. I would hope we end up higher than 1.56 PPG and actually think it is governed more about who is available to SM rather than his nous or lack of it. I believe the loss of several key players at the same time is the single biggest reason from the tail off of our PPG this season.

Yes including last seasons results holds much less value for lots of reasons. Now we have played a good number of games (18) it is a lot cleaner and fairer to judge on this season alone.

Is a manager more under pressure during the run-in when teams are fighting for every point, or at the start when "new players need time to gel" and "the table means nothing at this stage".

Do we find out more about the character of a manager at the beginning of a season or the end of it?

Based on everybody's PPG today, somebody would miss out on the play offs with 1.56.

    1. Walsall - 121 __ 2.00 __ 92
    2. Port Vale - 119 __ 1.94 __ 89
    3. Doncaster Rov - 116 __ 1.78 __ 82
    ----------------------------------------------------
    4. Milton Keynes - 117 __ 1.76 __ 81
    5. Crewe Alex. - 117 __ 1.76 __ 81
    6. Wimbledon - 114 __ 1.59 __ 73
    7. Notts County - 112 __ 1.56 __ 72
    ---------------------------------------------------
    8. Grimsby Town - 112 __ 1.56 __ 72

Win this afternoon and the PPG goes up to 1.63 (+0.07)
Draw it will be 1.53 (-0.03)
Lose it will be 1.47 (-0.09)
Thank you UTM. This seems a far more balanced way to present the current situation.
I do appreciate the time and effort you put in to collecting all the data.
It is possible that even though we are not playing, that we could go up a place today 🙂

Wimbledon drop to 1.50 if they lose at Harrogate today and to 1.55 if they draw, so on the PPG table, yes it's possible.

I think this manager was under pressure from the opening day this season because of last season.

I don?t know the answer to that due to so many factors involved as it?s not that simple and subjective.

For example if you have lots of injuries at the beginning of the season and very few at the end then you need more character when you are without some of your best players.

I would accept that wouldn't you? The problem with stats as we can see is that they can be manipulated to prove almost anything ( ask politicians) & the only ones that matter to me are the result & table position. I thought Maynard came in at a difficult time, normally most are glad to see the back of the previous manager because they've been sacked for poor results but Williams was different in that almost all, players, fans & owners were upset by him leaving, however if Maynard had been sacked for results last season I believe it would have been harsh but acceptable, but to sack him on results so far this season, even without taking into account the obvious injury problems, would be an injustice as well as sending out a very poor message to any managers thinking of taking the job in the future. Last time I looked they were in L1. If that's not promotion, what is it?

So, looking at your comment, we are still NL and LW didn't get promotion after all. I demand my Wembley ticket money back.
