As a 27 year old League 2 midfielder with a lot of talent, how much is he worth to another club?
I don't have any real idea of actual values so I am just going to guess.
If he had 3 years left on his contract maybe 400k pounds + or -.
Because he will have only 5 months in January maybe 100k pounds.
I know these are probably significantly out but the principle is there.

So is it worth losing 100k pounds (or whatever) by keeping Dan until the end of the season?
Or putting it another way, how much can a club like ours afford to turn down if we are genuinely hopeful of at least a play off place?

We kept Wootton and kept Rodrigues so I would like to think we will keep him. But it is said that everyone has a price.
If Dan Crowley wanted to leave and he had any respect for our club, he would leave whilst still contracted so that at least we'd get what he's worth.

He might want to leave but that depends on first us and second if anyone actually comes in for him.

Ok. The reality is that players have very little respect for clubs and a lot of respect for money.

Dan and his agent will know that a club is more likely to pay a much bigger signing on fee and bigger wages if they don?t have to pay a fee.

That?s the reality. There?s also likely to be more interest.

This is where I?m at. It would be counter productive to let Dan Crowley go in January. We have all seen we have struggled without DC?s influence and JJ. When you add in that we lost Macca and Nemane in the last transfer window another key player is too many too quickly.

I?m anticipating DC will follow the path of Wootton and Rodrigues and see out his contract. It gives us the best chance of being in the promotion mix. Plus in the summer there will be more players available to come in like when Crowley technically replaced RR although they are different both are creative and have that excitement factor. Also Crowley himself will likely have more options to pick from in the summer as well.

I personally think the figure to prise him away from Meadow lane in the January window would be around 200,000 Pounds. Otherwise keep him although I'm sure he's going at the end of the season for free even if the Magpies get promoted.
If I were a football club chairman I'd wait till summer and use the 200k to offer him 1500 quid extra a week in wages on a three year deal.

Personally I hope we keep him till the end of his contract.

I think if we were going to sell Crowley we would have done it by now. If a desperate or loaded club (or both) comes in with a silly offer in January, relative to his contract position, then yes there may be no option but to accept it, however his potential value to us in the second half of the season has been well illustrated by what we've missed since he's been injured. I don't think the decision to keep or sell him will say anything about the club's ambition - it will be dictated by the size of the offer and the player's own opinion on his future - but obviously I hope he decides like Jodi Jones that he's found a home at Meadow Lane and that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

I think it's fairly common knowledge that Dan wanted to go on deadline day in the summer window but we refused offers
If he wants to go next month and we get a decent offer then it would probably be a mistake to keep a player who isn't 100% committed
It was different with Ruben, who ran his contract down but wasn't agitating to go in the meantime
From what I hear there is encouraging news on the players who have been going through rehab which will soon give everyone a fillip
Maynard also suggested we may be seeing one or two additions in January
I'm looking forward to the second half of the season whether Dan is here or not

With the exception of JJ,there isn't anyone in the wings who can excite the fans, light up and change the course of a game, like DC. There is no other player in this division, that is anywhere near as talented, he's quite simply, irreplaceable. When he's playing well and combining him with JJ, we may never see the like again in a Notts shirt for quite some time if either or both, leave.

No brainer innit? Keep him until the end of the season, see where we end up. No ones gonna give us anywhere near his value in January. If he chooses to leave in May shake his hand and move on.

As a paying customer, this is what I want.
IMO supporters should resist turning into club treasurers. I'm interested in watching entertaining, winning football not bean counting
