He's way older than JOB was when we first started limiting his minutes and starts.

There would've been a good case for resting Didzy today and freeing up Martin from the touchline to play centrally either from the start or later in the game. It seems SM is making hard work of getting him to accept that this is the way it has to be now into his 38th year.

Apart from that, this is a terrible thread. It's just too easy and obvious to slate a player who's dispossessed a couple of times for holding on to the ball. And take no notice of other player(s) who lose the ball because they could never get the ball under control in the first place or lose it the only times they do something other than pass it 5 yards backwards.
Whatever you do, don't stand out as good, skillful or confident in England, they're not qualities that are appreciated

"He is nothing but a greedy sod". Hmm Not sure I entirely agree with that Durham.

There's many others who seem to think the same...

Do they share the same raincloud as you? We definitely saw the best and worst of Dan Crowley today. In the first half they couldn't get near him, in the second half he was ponderous and laboured. His overall career at Notts suggests he is a player who should be cherished rather than mocked.

    Agreed.

I don?t agree with the idea that he is just showing off, rather that he is trying to make something happen. I don?t think it is coincidence that our form has improved since he came back (apart from Salford which was his first game and everyone was poor).

He would still be one of the first on my team sheet.

Dan’s a great dribbler, but he doesn’t always see what seems like an obvious pass - like to Austin in the first half. He was dead on his feet in the second half, but still went on a brilliant run and nearly scored near the end. Yes, he’s frustrating at times, but I don’t think there’s a club in the league who wouldn’t want him in their team.

What today highlighted was the need for another pacy physical striker like AJ and a midfield general if Robertson is going to remain injured.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was apparently at the game today - maybe with an eye to send someone to us on loan?

Well any remotely negative comments I make about DC are meant in an "If only" way but if the "If only" didn't exist he wouldn't be in L2 would he. As Elite mentions, DC is encapsulated by todays game, immaculate in the first and wanting in the second; it's no coincidence that his immaculate side is when he goes forward and plays his natural attacking game and the dire side is when he is facing our goal with nowhere to go, that's when the "If only" comes in, if only he could stop trying and trust the players (in space generally) around him to receive the ball and let them restart the attacking phase. If he could convince himself to do that simple thing he would be a championship player (IMO of course).

Crowley can be a sublime passer and has a good shot, but today was the culmination of his issues. Some lovely passes intermixed with poor decision making and ball greedy rubbish.
So frustrating watching him in our own half looking up, seeing a pass and then deciding to do the stupid circle around rubbish to then lose the ball and put us under pressure.
First time today people around me agreed with my view which I’ve aired for a few weeks now. He is now beginning to harm the team.
I agree he should have been subbed and SM bottled it imo.
I also agree we can’t just remove him from the equation because without the player who has that cutting pass, we’ve not got enough to open teams up. Christ, 2nd half we couldn’t open a door, never mind a defence.
Not seen enough for a clear judgement, but would Martin do better in a roaming role? Thought he played so well at Cheltenham in that role and was surprised to see him not in the role again.
There’s definitely a player in there who can pass and move and I’d like to see more of him across the middle to see if he can cut it regularly.

understandably emotions running high today. Not smart to be too knee-jerk about things.

DC was badly inconsistent today - Didzy even gave him a visible b0llocking at one point, but he didn't lose us the game - except by not being at his best. Don't think he needs scapegoating for that.

We all moan when players have possession but aren't able to actually change games, but DC is more than capable of single-handedly changing games and has proved it on many occasions. Highly mercurial talent as others have said. On his day, probably in the top 5 players in this league. Be careful what you wish for, I'd say. I hope he stays.

don't disagree, but he's only 4 games back off his groin strain, and he scored and assisted in two (?) of them, so his 'harming the team' stage isn't as bad as it's being made out.

I do agree that it's kind of embarrassing to watch him when he so obviously does the unnecessary stuff. And that it is an issue when it's hard to sub him because of what he 'might' produce.
