    Thoughts on the forum dying.

As MT pointed out a while back. There are so many other options and it all moves so fast. You end up, by default, with less posters that use this kind of social media. I think it's happened to forums everywhere. I'm 10 years behind he times and falling back on technology.

I think the other thing that is different is that in the old "dark days" of Leeds (lg 1, 15 point penalties and Bates) it almost felt like Leeds against the world. We had some incredible characters back then. Rosey, Ref and quite a few others. You never had any idea what would happen on the pitch, team HQ or the forum. Obviously, the early wild west days settled down quite a bit and footymad put some standards together. I can understand it but it was much tamer than what preceded it.

The other thing is that with success and big money spends LUFC is much more like a business right now. I understand but kind of look back at the mayhem that followed the huge fall from the top that happened. None of us would want a return to those dark days but it was "interesting" when it was happening. Can still remember the thrill when someone would come out of the woodwork like Beckford, Howson, Green etc. Some real talent developed or scouted on bare bones budget.

It's much more "business like" now.

A lot of posters also moved to other forums or stopped posting due to certain posters not least Rosey.

Mrs O stated one time I think she knew rosey personally and was a great lad. In here he got barraged with bombs due to having different views to most. Gosh these fish oil tablets might be working I'm remembering some things.

I suspect many people let their alter egos (which are seldom altar egos!) out to play on these, essentially anonymous, message boards (some of you know each other in real life I’m sure, but probably not many).

I’m sweetness and light in real life, whereas I’m a contrary sarcastic git on here.

Or is it the other way around?

    One of those, anyway.

    Back to the impending anointment of Trumps disciples;

Hegseth.....served as a junior officer in the US army, has no experience of government of any sort and was last seen as a public figure as a news reporter. This man is proposed as the new head of US Defence with a budget of over $600 BILLION. Just how far up Trumps ass did he have to go? Only in America.

Yes, Mum knows Rosey going back many years & he is still about & commenting too ! 🤣

Adversity often revelas a persons true character & I often observe how folks respond to difficult situations, setbacks or failures.

Rosey (aka Marleys Ghost) was a North Sea diver often on the oil rigs Saturation diver team who inspected & maintained equipment on the ocean floor for undersea pipelines, so certainly earned his wedge through life after serving in the British forces prior & he sure spent top dollar following the club everywhere over the years too.

He was born & bred in Beeston-Leeds, a tough deprived urban area & he can still be found at the Old White Hart in Beeston (up Beeston Hill) near ER before games with a pint of Timothy Taylors getting his vocals ready into getting the South Stand sound rocking alongside a few others who dont post on here now, but they are alive & regulars on WACCOE & Facebook.

Beestons Old White Hart is still a friendly pub too, with no hint of rowdiness despite being packed out with generations of hard-core loyalist Leeds Utd support. 👍

Main reason I am often told why many left here was that less fans on here actually went to games so many discussion view points lacked the dialogue answers of questions to events attendees wanted to discuss.

So that theory kinda suggests that to fully explore events then you gotta venture outside the cave & tell the the truth about what you have seen outside the cave, I suppose.

Was talking the other day on the eternal football conflict of the world of sensory faculty coming from within in the cave (aka football Tv viewers) & how the world of footballing ideas uttered from the outside world differ (from football folks in stadia).

Many thought in conclusion that Tv only observes the shadow of things on/off the pitch & only those who venture to attend live games outside the Tv/cave see things as they actually are & they would rather discuss about what they had actually seen among themselves.

So maybe another reason for less posters ?

Suppose they pay their money, so they will express opinions taken from the stands & will then discuss issues in the many supporter group meetings nowadays as a way to vent their spleen also.

    Just saying Oz.

    I think you're probably right.

They were fairly nascent at the time, but I never bothered with these sorts of forum things during the time I was regularly going to games as I'd be discussing the games with the mates I'd travel with. I'd have no need or yearning to chat much with anyone else unless they were opposition fans at the same games.

You definitely spot and pick up on completely different things when you attend matches, especially if you get physically differing views within grounds (obviously the case for away trips) and, though better than not seeing anything at all, the tv experience is a poor substitute for the raw emotions you experience when attending games.

So, yes, this forum is more for those of us who seldom, if ever, get the joy of seeing Leeds "properly" play live, but there are some good lads and lasses on here and, at least for me, it's as close I usually get to the action besides a couple of WhatsApp groups and interactions with shirt collecting buddies to talk about idiotic things like messed up FA Cup patches (like the last game - we weren't consistent!).

The few I get to these days keep me going and I'm happy to lurk on here as it's at least something to tie me to the club I (misguidedly!) love.

Watching on the idiot box also gives you a false idea of the distances, speed, power, coordination and situational awareness of the professional game. It makes it look easy. It isn’t.

Doesn’t mean you can’t make points or discuss games and individual performances on a forum, but I must admit I have been uncomfortable reading the comments about Illan Meslier on here.

As someone who still routinely “plays in goal” (I would never claim to be a goalkeeper!), I just don’t think it’s very useful and I can’t imagine he’s in a great mental state at the moment.

All are entitled to their opinion though, even if I disagree with it.

Yeah, all good honest points Orgs, really hard to give a difinitive answer to forums woes nowadays.
(Interesting spot regarding logos on our match worn Cup shirts too, noted).👍

Mes has self-belief, confidence & trust in his abilities, so public judgments will only spur him on to up his capacities that need work on. Its an inner- belief that you can achieve your goals by completing all tasks that drives such folks on but saying all that there will be no place to hide against Wednesday for him on Sunday.

I was trawling the Wendies boards & came across this thread about about the changing of atmosphere in grounds now too ! 🙁

For those that can go to games all the better for those off us that cant well that's life. The age gap this days to past is only showing what the world is going through as people are lazy much easier to sit on the couch and scream and youth prefer to be on computers while other youth are out terrorizing the streets. Besides costs are astronomical not many can afford it anymore there is a lot of reasons people don't attend ticket availability for one. What about people with ill health should they be deprived barracking for a team because they cant get to games. I don't buy into you don't see what's going on TV than the ground! If you want to watch the stand yeah tv doesn't do that and also the TV catches things you don't see with the eye as is the reason people booo referees and players for bad tackles as one it was a dive and ref was spot on. To be quiet honest I was glad when TV took over as going to games locally wasn't much fun apart the team winning as every game there were fights cars house getting damaged and still happening today only by a different breed of supporter's. As for Meslier he deserves what he gets as he is a maker off his own. Terrible keeper terrible at crosses terrible at distributing the ball terrible at organization with an occasional save. All the others get criticked should he be immune? No one is having a go at him just at his ability. Anyway bottom line is you have your opinions and others have there's and may it long lasts as the world is farked either way.
