I think he's worth a year or two, but I'd want us to sign a more impactful and polished number 10 as well. Someone who can unlock defences like Ruben or Crowley could.

He has scored 4 more goals than Palmer.

You're comparing goal output for Whitaker and Palmer?

We're going to have to fill gaps and solve problems with both defensive and attacking midfielders in the off-season, but best not to get the two areas mixed up.

Palmer is an experienced midfield player, and should be chipping in with a few goals. CW has mainly been used as a midfield player, and shows more effort than Palmer of late..

Hmmmm? midfield is clearly a broad role in your eyes. You are comparing one who sits deep and is more renowned for getting the ball off the defence and comparing him to a midfielder that is very much attack minded and who has on occasion played as a centre forward.

There have been times when Palmer has been in a good position but chosen to pass. Is this a legacy of Williams 'don't shoot from outside the box' or an issue for Matty ? He's a good player but could be more aggressive and I don't think he's a captain.

He's 30 now but it was clear who he was before he joined us 4 years ago. Wiki says 401 games 15 goals. He's a 1.5 goals a season man.
He's got more pressing concerns than his goal output. I think he's done really well to come back from the serious knee injury.
He's still not quite the midfielder he was but he's been on the long journey to get back there, maybe it'll be for the start of next season. So his best might be yet to come and he might be good for another 1.5 goals for us before his contracts out.

The lack of goal threat away from our free scoring front two has been an area of concern all season. Must make it easier for opposition managers when they only have to worry about stopping the assist from the midfield.

Go physical on Jatta, keep close attention on McGoldrick and watch out for Abbott from distance , do these things well and we are effectively blunted.

More long term expect and hope for more goals output from Jarvis , Traore and if signed Whitaker next season.

Palmers potential to score a goal is about that of Tsaroulla. Not good.
I wonder what his penalty taking is like?
