Why, what has Maynard actually bought to the club? The defence was improved by recruitment

Was just looking at Huddersfield's forum to see if there was any mention of Luke Williams. I couldn't see anything on recent pages but this exchange came up.......

"I read what you said and I just don?t agree we are in a better place than 3 years ago. I think we?re in a mess."

"People think we are in a better place than we were 3 years ago just because we opened a bar..?"

"There have been peripheral improvements no doubt, but the core business is success on the pitch. ..It's like polishing a car that doesn't work....ie pointless.."

Things don't look good for Luke when Rooney is well above you on the odds

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Des Buckingham ends up at Notts as Maynard's replacement.

This is what I think could be the outcome backing rather than sacking. The sale of Langstaff, Nemane last summer and subsequently Crowley in January have ultimately negatively impacted the creativity and firepower in the squad in the past few months and it has caught up with us. Had one, two or three of those still been at the club and been available over the two playoff games things could have been different.

Then the injuries have to be factored in and all clubs have injuries to contend with. It's then about squad depth and quality of those that have come in when the likes of JJ, Crowley and Didzy were out along with the list of others.

The January transfer window saw players that were brought in that to me seemed to be for the future but did not turn out to be game changers or experienced league two players that may have been that bit extra to get us over the line. They may turn out to be in the future and they are young and learning.

We need to look to the likes of Doncaster and other teams that have fallen at the play-offs in the past and look at what is needed to strengthen to get the job done next time. Last summer it was about sorting the defence. This summer for me will be about midfield especially with Abbott going back to Spurs. For me we will need some pace back in the side because Nemane did bring that. We also need a bit of physicality as well as we have been lightweight in some games. We need something different up top to compliment Didzy because finding someone of Didzy's quality who can produce moments of magic is very tough. Plus we should not be reliant on a 37 year old next season. It needs to be someone who can put the ball in the back of the net at this level.

In terms of how we play obviously away from home we were where a team needs to be for automatic promotion. Only Doncaster were better on the road than us. However it's at home where we will need to improve. We had the 10th best home form and lost 8 at home and Doncaster lost 4. Win three or four more home games and that is another 9-12 points.

There was no excuse for not having a ready made replacement for the cry baby. They knew in August he was going & that meant possibly in Jan so, they had plenty of time to find a replacement & if that's the way you want to operate as a buy to sell you must always be ready.

Trouble is mid season any players of that quality are already locked in at other clubs and would cost the equivalent of what we got for him - not the model. Plastic's were fortunate that he wanted out and we were willing to sell at that time. Any players available were possibly overseas ones but had we filled our quota by then with Traore?
