I agree. Some players have long memories, especially prideful blokes like Didzy, who had to suffer the indignity of being behind the likes of Edwards/Grant at the start of the season - being out of the team and only getting back in after his goals at Swindon away. That was so wrong and insulting really.

The right decision with all things considered but wish him all the best.
I think he?s been terribly unlucky and likewise he was let down in the Jan window.
You can pick any manager you want but if we?re in a position where we?re relying on Junior Morias at any point next season, then something has gone wrong!
I?m not sure what people mean by needing a proven and experienced manager. That normally just means they?ve achieved promotion in the past and subsequently been sacked several times.
I?ll happily take another up and coming manager over one that?s been on the EFL merry-go-round for years!

Sirrel was in a promotion spot with Brentford at the time he came to us (they had been mid-table when he took over). It probably would be fair to say though there was an element of desperation involved with Dunnett having had at least two people known to have turned the Notts job down over the course of a year, likely more than that privately. Jack Wheeler had been caretaker for all of that time.

To say Warnock couldn't get Scarborough out of tier 4 is disingenuous, he'd got them promoted to that level, consolidated well in their first ever FL season and then left them in an automatic promotion spot when he came to us (they were also averaging less than 3k, so very much overachieving).

A likeable bloke who obviously worked hard, but the correct decision from the brothers.

A few bad results early on next season and everything could have turned very toxic.

The decision means the new gaffer has a full pre-season and chance to work with any new signings.

This fresh start is definitely needed. I think we may have drifted in to mid-table mediocrity if we'd kept Maynard, even with new backroom staff and players. He would have been fighting an uphill battle from the first game.

    So who to replace him?

All this take of O'Brien or McG is nonsense.

Has to be an established manager with at least 1 or 2 promotions on the CV at this level.

But, we all know it will be somebody from the Norwegian Prem or Pharoah Islands 'superleague'....lol!

Ahhh yes this method has proved wildly succesful for Notts, Ardley, Ince, Sheridan, Cooper...

Surely we need someone from further up the pyramid?

That?s not what I meant by someone with experience. Rather someone like Des Buckingham.

The final parting shot of 'We are highly optimistic about the club's future' could almost have 'now he's gone' in brackets after it.
I read it that way too. 'Quietly brutal' is spot on IMO.

So as I said, no league promotion on their CVs in response to 'We need experience a manger who has proven he or she can win and gain promotion.'

They were obviously seen as up and coming managers with potential and Sirrel was well known first hand to Dunnett at the time.

Anyway I'm looking forward to a woman taking on the role, surely there is one around who has gained a promotion
