Hoorah! Exactly this. I'd say a lesson for The Bros. This is British football. It is not a cake walk.

Agree we are too nice and for too long, what we need is a prime Michael Doyle, energy, tough and can play and will wind up and disrupt where needed and lead others.

Walsall have only themselves to blame.

12 points clear at the top at one point, then relegation form for the last 20 matches. Even worse than us!

I suspect the most blame for their failure probably lies with Stoke City!

If it was roles reversed, would you have been as critical of Notts?

Exactly that , firing blanks after he was recalled by Stoke to warm the bench.
I thought NL was very subdued at Meadow Lane after he was "Platted" by Matty 5.
Lowe did get on the scoresheet benefitting from a deflection . Class and expertise to be on the spot to finish.

With regards to the Wimbledon and Walsall PO final glad to see the Dons gone as we struggled to score against them and no surprise they have allotted 26 clean sheets or so this past season.
At least The Bescot is closer for our travelling fans.

Just think how much closer Huddersfield, Lincoln, Barnsley, Rotherham, Stevenage, Peterborough, Northampton, Burton, Doncaster, Vale and Bradford would have been. And what might have been a Weekender in the Vegas of the northwest!!

This post reads like the posts from the NL in the years before we got promoted?.too nice, not enough physicality?.wont get promoted playing pretty football. But we did.

We didn?t lose out on promotion because of a lack of physicality or nastiness, though a little more of that would help. We lost out because the players played as a reflection of the managers mentality.

The players we have right now are more than capable but we need the right man in charge. If Alves gets the job we can more or less write this next season off. At least we?d have low expectations I suppose.

What we need is someone in the Ravenhill and Bishop mould

Wimbledon had the best defence in League Two and if you keep three clean sheets over three playoff games then you deserve to get promoted. In the six hours of football we played against them this season we could only score against them once from a corner where Matty Platt headed the ball in.

Wimbledon may not have played with flair or firepower (being the lowest goal scorers in the top seven) but they've been a tough side to break down along with having physicality and some dark arts. It's worked for them on this occasion.

Walsall fans will see it as a massive opportunity missed for them to get promoted more so than us. They had a terrible run of form after being 12 points clear at the top of the table in January.

Out of the four sides that have been promoted this season only Bradford have not played in League One in the last three years. Doncaster and Wimbledon coming down in 2022 and Port Vale in 2024. They know what is required to get out of this league and that's something the club can learn from.
