I wouldn't have posted what giddy did, but I feel it only fair to point out that it wasn't him that made this a political thread. Once that particular can of worms was opened by others it was only a matter of time before things turned nasty.

Assuming that the killing of Charlie Kirk was political, this and other political threads are, perhaps, indicative of the polarisation of society that allows such things to happen.

I have my views upon the roots of such polarisation, but will leave them in the box for the moment.

I will not post RIP for Charlie Kirk. It would be meaningless and hypocritical given that I had not heard of the bloke until today. That does not mean that I don't consider his death a tragedy, particularly as he has a young family and particularly if he died for something as pointless as his political beliefs.

It may be that you take more of an interest in American politics than I do (did he appear in your Twitter echo chamber perchance?) but I can assure you that I hadn't heard of him.

Just to add -ive watched Charlie debate with some real angry booogers - never saw him get rattled , methodical and pleasant to everyone - hope they catch the sick bstard who?s left two kids and a wife without the man they loved - electric chairs too good for him 😡and he will be caught !!

If he was someone who debated rather than hated then he is a grievous loss.

But he supported a man who habitually led his supporters in a chant calling for his political opponents to be locked up...

I lived over there for 26+ years Frog and have never heard of him, so when the news headlines of his death popped up on feeds yesterday I simply skipped over it as insignificant.

Obviously having seen more details today and the nature of events it was much more significant. RIP.

He will be a great loss to democracy. A shining light on how to behave although he had his moments earlier in his career.
He left high school and skipped university but he was very well read.
He had a way of connecting with the kids as long as they were not too far to the left.
One thing that I did not agree with was his views on pro life.
