1966 wasn't a bad year for albums was it? Aside my aforementioned Batman TV themed LP 😀 and Pet Sounds, other favourite classics from that year include The Beatles Revolver, Dylan's Blonde on Blonde and The "Beano" album from John Mayalls Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton.

With The Beatles was the first LP I ever owned but that was bought for me. The first LP I actually went out and bought myself was the first Procol Harum album. My dad had given me some money to get some new school shoes and on the way to the shop I saw the LP in the window of the local record shop on Soho Road. So I bought the cheapest pair of shoes I could get and with the remainder I bought the LP and told my dad I would pay him back with pocket money over the weeks. He actually let me off paying it back which was a shock as I expected a back hander for being cheeky.

I hesitate to admit my first album purchase, it was such a long time ago but I think it was ‘Me and my Shadows’! Actually, he wasn’t too bad when he first began but went downhill quite quickly! I also bought ‘With The Beatles’ and my first Bob Dylan album was ‘The Freewheeling Bob Dylan’, the album cover had a picture of Bob and Suze Rotolo. Interesting memory for me, that last one, I first heard that Dylan album in a girls bedroom but I can’t remember her name! How sad is that? Anyway, I still have every record that I ever bought, 45’s, LP’s and CD’s, even a few very old 78’s! That ages me, doesn’t it?

As with Wazoo the first album I ever owned was With The Beatles. It must have been bought for me as I have never been a fan. At that time the Stones, Animals and Kinks were my favourites. Kettering, I think you mentioning that you owned 78’s is brave of you. I had masses of 45’s, a lot of LP’s and a few EP’s. When I moved down here all of them were left behind. Mom used to go on at me to take them but I never did. When she died I was left with the decision what to do. I left all my 45’s and a lot of LP’s behind (including a lot of Stax and Tamla). I kept my EP’s. I have subsequently regenerated my collection with vinyl, CD’s etc. Shame I have nothing to play them on. An album I had from 1966 was Road Runner by Junior Walker and The All Stars.

I had an original 78 of Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley and The Comets, kept it for years, then someone sat on it, 78’s don’t bend!

Can't remember the first album I ever bought. My mom bought me the first one I ever owned though. I think it was Pinky and Perky's Hit Parade. That or a similar compilation of high pitched squealing noises. Not unlike a lot of 'music' in fairness 😊 .

Can't remember the pint of beer but EMI's mfp used to do Hot Hits compilation albums featuring mini or maxi skirted "dolly bird" models on the covers. Me and my brothers mostly had those K-tel ones though which were a bit more salubrious!😀
