New director quotes.

My thoughts were that some of the quotes seemed at odds to his initial interview the other week.
Seemingly not bothered at all about going down, thinking that would only impact on fans.
Less fans, lower income (price reduction or not) lower commercial revenue, less income from all sales on match days. Only saving would be on players wages, which would naturally follow on players staying or new ones in.
Relegation would only make things worse...and this guy does not get it. He thinks in terms of say a 3 or 4 yr plan to get from 2 to ch.

Possibly, using his method of sustained growth on and off the field. Fine in theory. But it is only that, as he openly admits he thinks it can be achieved without a budget increase. He lives in a commercial world, successful at that. What he envisages you cannot apply to a football club, football will pull and push via players, injuries, costs, inflation, income receipts in a way he will not be used to planning for.
The current administration cannot at times handle it, and we get in trouble. He will fall into the same trap the way he talks.
Very few boards or chairman are good at it. The current one has never really delegated to those that know football enough times.

Pushing the boat out now and again, at the right time, in a controlled way with good signing, not splashing a 1m on Nombe, while letting other better players walk a way free he will have to stop. We have come to a crashing halt on that, a good thing, but by paying for previous errors.

The way he talks has no substance, he has a lot to learn. Thinking relegation can be easily overcome and it only troubles the fans is a massive red flag as far as I am concerned.

An owner good at selling lighting.
Perhaps one who is good at finance.
We need one who can build a board, staff across the club, good at running a football clube from a football direction, delegate to them and let them go with it. A sound concern.

Well said Uttis, football fans have different views each to their own except when the abuse steps over the line. The abuse from these people is appalling and way over the line of what is acceptable I am surprised libel action has not followed already.

Phil Smith is one of the best businessmen in the country Lloyd's Bank don't pay £400m for a business you have built in just over 8 years, but these clowns call him "clueless", yet he has Non Exec Director positions with a number of well known Companies in the finance world. And he is offering his services and expertise to RUFC for free. The only people clueless are the people running Terrace Talk

Phil Smith's record speaks for itself.He has been very successful in business and is willing to give his expertise to our club in order to improve it.For too long, there has been no plan for the future of RUFC and I am confident we now have leadership and there will be changes for the better.Thank you Phil for coming on board.

It is foolish to criticise Smith for the state we are in, he is here to help improve the situation and resolve some of the poor management decisions made over the last few years. To do this he needs time, and I think his appointment is great news.
I think his comments around MH are what you expect, no matter what he really thinks, he has to support the man in the seat at this time. The relegation comment I think is more about preparing us for the likely situation that we will go down, he is basically saying if we take a step back, don?t worry we are prepared. Let us be clear by next Saturday afternoon we will know what our real chances of staying up are, without Gore and Powell I can?t see us doing as well as some others on here can, but we will see.

Unless Smith has a free hand, in whatever way, we won?t get to the acid test and see has cards in the hand. It would be much better if he kept a low profile, as he may well be having to not say much at all?..and it really does get a very odd impression.

I don?t say unlikely I said likely, I think the loss of gore and Powell is massive, no engine room in midfield, people need to note that Spence has also been playing with injections!! I don?t think MH has the ability as a manager to keep us up, he makes too many mistakes and doesn?t seem to learn.

He's already put more money into the club than most of us in lifetime of watching, I see it as perfect scenario for all involved, the club gets outside advice and help for free, and Mr Smith gets the chance to try before he buys !
