Well to be fair, you haven't actually engaged with the subject, beyond making a claim which I've comprehensively shown to be untrue and then failed in any way to offer any evidence to back up your claim!

So to be factual you stand corrected on both counts in reality.

I still am of the opinion that services such as gas, water, electricity, buses, trains and the NHS should never, ever be in private hands. There will be those who disagree.

Private hospitals/clinics are not a problem, as far as I am concerned, provided there's sufficient NHS capacity to properly treat the huge % of the populace that can't afford private health care, in a timely fashion.

Totally agree. Watch ‘Dirty Business’ if you can. It’s superbly acted but so shocking. Not just about the state of our rivers and coasts but about the bank driven profiteering that is taking place from what is effectively toxic fly tipping into our waterways.

As you know I have three German based grandchildren. They regularly swim freely in local lakes, rivers and the Baltic Sea (brrrr!). The water is clean. We’d be mad to allow them to do that here on the evidence of this programme. Banks and greed are solely to blame.

As I say, each to their own, but he?’s no more for me than your recent ?‘one liner?’ contributions.
Mm interesting that our Mod expresses strong views that people waving Palestinian flags are antisemetic, and was very quick and heavy with me for inadvertantly saying that 40% of those rioting had had contact with the Police for domestic, child abuse and ***ual offences, when I missed out the word "arrested", although statistically it is likely some of those not arrested had similar records, even threatening to delete my post, if Id idn't correct it. yet seems quite unconcerned by GP's blatant racist and Islamaphobic post.

This is an interesting one. I was in favour of the Thatcher era denationalisation of some of these service companies which initially seemed to provide an enhanced service at a less volatile cost but as time went on I became increasingly disillusioned with the lack of intrastructiral investment - or the misdirection of it - in the privatised bodies. I now tend to support the RP perspective for eectric gas water etc although less so for buses, trains etc. I still have "scars" from commuting under British Rail - or rather not commuting nut waiting on platforms in the rain during cancellations strikes and late running.

How does it work in the land of clog? Are all such things all in national ownership?

Mind you achieving renationalisation on an e1uitable basis may prove a financial challenge unless one just lets the private service providers simply go to the wall and pick up the businesses cheap - or at the expense of peoples pension funds, which would indirectly charge the cost to most of the country, particularly the older cohort who had more invested. This approach would mean most services would have to deteriorate still further, and cost a lot more to fix under the state.

Sadly all a "bit of a mess", but most of us here will be dead before anything gets cured

Sorry Swale I don’t see such a post, what’s the post number?

You seem more grumpy than normal, has someone nicked your placard?

Well the bookies were spot on. It wasn't even that close, bad night for both labour and reform. At least labour's response is reasonably dignified admitting it was disappointing, farages response of blaming Muslims not so dignified.

Tbf you did predict it correctly a while ago. Personally I’m just hugely relieved. More mid term blues for Labour but the ‘turquoise tide’ has been stopped and it’s a much bigger blow for Farage than Starmer, imo.
