We've spent a lot of time this season worrying about our defensive frailties. The odd thing is, though, only three teams in L.1 have a better defensive record than us - and we have scored against two of them!
I'm beginning to wonder if the failure to create/convert chances hasn't been a bigger factor.
Going further still, perhaps we just need to be more patient. The players were bound to need some time to gel and to adjust to the different demands of this Division. Also, training is one thing, but TM has obviously learned most from watching different combinations in the actual games.
I suspect the opening two matches told him all he needed to know about not expecting to stroll L.1 on the basis of our perceived superior quality and skill-set. Perhaps that message has now sunk in with the players as well.
Gillingham will be playing for a point. They have scored six goals in ten games, so I don't think we will be watching open football on their part. If we can get an early goal, the floodgates might open. If not, I hope the crowd avoids impatience and stays behind the players.
